Can anyone post any part of the lyrics for the Santa Cruz song? I was too blown away to take them in entirely. I was amazed that he keep going on and it was a complete song and not just a throw away snippet.
“Wind in my hair, I feel part of everywhere...
Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead...overhead...”
  • Anyone got a pic of the poster from Santa Cruz? New design? Thanks.

I don't think he was in attendance, but Ed teased us that Mike might show up.

Again, venue was awesome, just a mini-arena. Rather than like 200 rows, each section had like 20! Ed at one point said "I'm a Giant!" and went stomping around the stage as a big slo-mo giant. Clomp. Clomp. Clomp.

Audience overall sat for the first set, stood for last two songs or so? Then stood for the rest of the show, the encores. But a really nice vib, so small that anyone could really "talk to Ed" ... and they did. Some problems with a cellphone going off up close and Ed wanted to answer it for the poor schmo.

Yeah the room service in Vancouver tale was his little break (http://forums.pearljam.com/showpost.php?p=5341400&postcount=76), but he said a lot of funny shit throughout. Near the end someone shouts, "Let's Party!" and Ed's like, "Oh man I thought that's what we've been doing all along?!?! Well, I've been kinda working, but I thought you all were partying!"

The Santa Cruz song was very, very, very cool. I hope someone can post lyrics! Arc was performance theater, very ... impactful! And his earlier reference, that Liam had reminded him that Santa Cruz was the birthplace of the wet suit -- that the transition from Vancouver to Santa Cruz was like the warmth one gets from pissing in one's wetsuit, hehehehe. Nice!

I was in a media-blackout -- Porch was a nice surprise, didn't really think he was gonna play the whole thing! For me, Trouble was spot on. Millworker. And yeah, the Santa Cruz song was something else. The ITW songs without accompanyment (cept Hard Sun) worked exceedingly well, was worried, needn't have been. He really is getting good on acoustic!

His ongoing banter of depressing songs he had to play, even though the uke was such a happy instrument, was fun. Baggin on those "happy" people - "hey! i'm happy!". "No, I'm depressed, and YOUR coming with me!!!" But c'mon, we were all sooo happy all night!

Again, what a great venue -- beer line sucked, but walking around town two blocks away before/after the show was really a kick! Cheaper beer!

Poster seems like it's for the whole tour (has all dates on it) -- need to check -- was vancouvers a blue wash behind the black print? Print is of Ed standing on stage guitar in had, shot from side stage, all shadows, bw, mic/montiors and some amps near him? I could see each venue getting a different color wash perhaps? I loved the Seattle warm up poster sooo much, different, but I'm exceedingly happy with the tour print!

And I just gotta say -- Liam was really good, would encourage you all to get in your seats and watch him do his thing!

OMG! BERKELEY IN JUST 30 HOURS OR SO!

  • I don't even know what to say.

It was so incredible, just as intense as some PJ shows I've been too.

Something I noticed was that the setup he's using, it's like he's surrounding himself with stuff, because the 4 other guys aren't there ...

and arc was so intense, so intense

I think the crowd was on the whole, respectful, there were a few shouters and signs. We all stood for the last two encores.

Let me tell you... As a "local" of SC, who absolutely loves my town, I can't tell you how special it was to hear him sing a song about it! I've had a lot of amazing experiences that PJ have been a part of. My wife and I got engaged on the beach in Santa Cruz, and then we flew to Seattle for the 96 show right after w/o telling anyone. My first born was still in the womb during Bridge School 99, etc, and my tour friends I travel w/ are some of the most special people I know. I've been to over 50 shows since 95, and this was by far one of the most special moments of any show I've been too! I believe Ed sang about settling down here. That wouldn't be too friggin cool! LOL!

front row center, no I was 2nd row center, but front row center, 12 seats, were handed at randomly to coupls when they entered the venue. Basically free upgrades.

Who the hell does this? Fucking Eddie Vedder does. What an awesome idea. Some really cool people got this, and they were stoked, including a 10 club member, who missed out on ten club seats and was way in the back.

took my little brother, he loved it. Ed's performance was so powerful, he was very talkative tonight, worked the crowd like a pro, and the Santa Cruz song was a full fledged completed song, and it was amazing. He had the who venue singing the chorus..."cruizin into Santa Cruz" or "coming into Santa Cruz" or "rolling into Santa Cruz" or ??? someone help me out here, lol. Ed talked of Neil playing on his radio, he's always with him were ever he goes....has an old friend they met when they were 17, now they're old and have kids, but whenever they hang it's like their 17 again (these aren't the exact lyrics but cover the story he was telling in the song), the end was basically Ed saying I think I need to move down to Santa Cruz.

the song was really good, of course played on the Santa Cruz crowd, and wow how special was that, it debuted with us, who knows what kind of play if may ever get again, but we are all hoping for it to be released?

All my local friends (non PJ geeks like me) were blown away, and I hung with them until 4am, and they were still in awe of Ed, and wanted any solo stuff I had of his, lol...which I will provide :)

anyone going to the shows - get in your seat for LIAM FINN and EJ (hottie in a dress and cowboy boots :) ) What a great song writer and performer. I have had his album for about a month to five weeks, really like it, but his energy on stage is amazing, everyone seem to like him a lot also, most my friends, at least 10 last count, went and bought his cd after his set, and Liam was at the table signing the cd's for each.

we'll I still have Berkeley II and Santa Barbara, and it was a great decision make a small vacation out of this to see multiple shows. Ed is still God

Awesome review Beachdweller!! I was looking for you amongst the line and in the crowd during the break between sets, but didn't notice anyone. Glad to hear you enjoyed the show!

What can I say, even though the setlist was strikingly similar to the Vancouver shows, I had an absolute blast and thought the performance was outstanding..Ed never disappoints!!! Personal highlights for me were MOTH, You're True, I Am Mine, the SC song, No More and Hide Your Love Away. Having a personally signed poster with a little added note to my baby daughter on it while having some quality hang time with Ed just makes the evening....priceless.

Looking forward to Bezerkeley Night 2 now!!! Maybe we'll run into each other there Beach.

    Peace,

no, the song was about Santa Cruz, a place he has been many times, and it has local flavor to it. won't be any names changes, it's ours :D

    headin south my compass reads
look at our speed we're going 63
out the windows as the trees go green
i look at them and they look at me
got neil young on the stereo
he comes along wherever I go
but something different as I hear him now
    headin' towards his old hangout

i can feel the liftin' of my blues
i can feel the wide horizon new
got the feeling I just can't lose
