I remember loving the verse of My Apocalypse the first time I listened to it...but then the bridge kicked in and holy hell...this was the Metallica of old to me. Was so pumped I was trying so hard not to headbang in my office at the time.

A lot of great songs eh. BBAS is made for air drums, it's a fun game trying to memorise all the fills. SAR didn't grab me and TDTNC feels too much like a mashup of Fade To Black and One. Love TWJYL and U3 I even enjoy.

Biggest bugbear is how loose it is to me. Rubin wanted to keep the spirit of Puppets in mind for it-but Puppets is one of the tightest metal albums ever and if I remember correctly (and it certainly sounds like it) Lars didn't play to a click for DM. The difference between DM and Hardwired is stark in that respect.
Dude said "bugbear".  Who played D&D back in the day?

I was thinking, doesn't Metallica deserve as much credit (if not more) for killing off hair metal as the grunge bands get? The Black Album blew up before Nevermind. It sold more and was more popular. Metallica was playing stadiums at the time whereas Nirvana never made it to stadiums. And it was Metallica that spent the entire 80's somewhat "battling" those hair bands for metal supremacy, and they won, both creatively and commercially. I guess you can say that Nirvana ushered more bands into the limelight (PJ, AIC, SG in particular), but the best-selling Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax albums are all their immediate releases following the Black Album.

I guess you can say that MTV prioritized the grunge bands following the release of Nevermind, but as far as mainstream rock fans saying "THIS is the rock I want," no band of that era was bigger than Metallica.

That's a good point, but I think it was just good timing on both bands. I'm 41, so that was right in my sweet spot of hitting my teens and discovering all these great bands. My friends and I dug the metal/hard rock and grunge bands, so there is probably a lot of overlap of people like me getting into everything with a guitar at that time.

If you were listening to Master of Puppets, I'm the Man, Angel of Death or Peace Sells you may have had a Poison album or Skid Row one but you sure as hell weren't listening to Bang Tango, Pretty Boy Floyd, Slaughter and Firehouse.

Those 4 bands, poison, Winger, even Warrant were the bands that we all had enough of so Grunge was a perfect segue from metal that we were listening to and what this newer genre had to offer.  It ushered in Indie music and industrial that had a little bit of a push earlier with bands like NIN and Ministry.

Lollapalooza to me is what opened the floodgates of music out there if you really get down to it.

Metallica's website... About three weeks ago or so. This live Moscow show is great, sounds killer. At the end of "Fade to Black" right when the song ends you can hear the damn helicopter that was flying around... The box itself is awesome, I think it will hold up much longer than the others with the different material they used... All in all I'm stoked to add this one to the collection...

wouldn't that be amazing.. I'm hoping these things don't sell right away so maybe there's a chance to buy then at discount.  would love the moscow show on vinyl.

I listened to the whole show last night on a stream service. Fantastic! And that they played in front something like 1.5 million people!

Yes it is. I just dropped $150 for a copy from someone who broke up a box set. It was the only thing in the box that I wanted.

Wow! Was going to offer you mine once my SDE box gets here today, but I'll probably hang on to it now.
Killer show at Metro last night.  Crazy to see them in that tiny venue.  PJ at The Vic is the only show I've ever been shut out of, but been lucky to see Foo Fighters and QOTSA play Lolla aftershows at Metro and Soundgarden at The Vic, and this was right up there.  Feel very fortunate.

I’ve been streaming it on Amazon for the past two weeks. Got my four year old hooked on it. “Let’s listen to the loud metal music!”

pretty fucking awesome! wonder if they'll do something like this on the east coast. If they do philly, i'll try and get tix. Looks like the same set list as the S.F. show though. I know they opened with Whiplash which they have never done before.

There was quite a bit of variety for a 16-song set compared to SF (below), but the structure was similar in terms of old/new stuff. They really did seem like they wanted to practice for the upcoming festivals, thus a lot of the standards weren’t played at either show (Sandman, NEM). Lars said on his IG video that they are headed to Louisville, so I don’t think there are any more club shows for this week, but I can see them doing it on weeknights in between all their upcoming Fri/Sun festival sets.

I've got a single (possibly the pair) of face value tickets ($200 Ea) for sale for this Thursday's show in Hollywood FL at the 7,000 seat Hard Rock. I posted in Lost Dogs, but message me if interested.
