I was listening to Load last night. Honestly, I still like that record. I love how the band evolved over time. Their look was a tad too contrived and an attempt to look "alternative", but I liked the music.

That is the album that made them an average rock band.  Sure the songs are catchy but it's the furthest Metallica thing they had done.  No instrumentals, long songs, etc.

Hero of The Day does it for me on that album.  I really enjoy that track.

EDIT:  I sound very harsh.  It's a good album just not what you'd expect and Metallica did that by design.

Its not cheap, but that's a lot of great live music on it. Wish they would put the Moscow show out in other formats.

I just went and looked at the material out of curiosity and they have the "riff tapes".  I love hearing a songs progression.  I might buy this just for that.

Ron McGuvny used to come on a radio station called KNAC for "Mandatory Metallica" in California and bring in all sorts of rough cuts of songs when he was in the band so some things were really raw and it was so cool to hear.

I'm changing my mind on this.  might be a must have now, lol.

    Flip flopping!

to me it was kind of a logical next progression after Metallica. They really should have taken the best from Load and ReLoad and made one album out of it.

I know i'm in the minority in that I like the material least-liked amongst metallica die hards (load, st anger), but that's alright. I can take the abuse. lol

I went nuts at the Winnipeg show when King Nothing started. Love that song.

King Nothing is another one I really liked.  It took time to adjust to this album though, I won't lie.  Any diehard wasn't drinking the juice from this album.  It had a different sound from the previous albums and maybe the producer was to blame for that I'm sure.  He wanted "his" sound and not a Metallica sound, that was for sure.

Load is fascinating. Not in their top five but a solid album. Reload I can't defend. Just can't. A few years ago I was a fair-weather fan and decided to listen to their albums start to finish and I was amazed that Reload was the only one I couldn't find a lot of high lights on. This band is knock out phenomenal from start to finish. I found the same with R.E.M. (although their last few were hard to swallow). Metallica is amazing, just flat out a great band - no matter the genre. And I do love Until it Sleeps, and adn the thrashing. It's all good.

That metallic drum in St Anger didn't make you want to jab pool sticks in your ears?

Take that damn drum away and that album is wonderful, maybe a wee bit better mix on it too.  Down the highs a bit.

Hardwired is a wonderful album to me.  It ticks the boxes for me.

I fucking dug the shit out of St Anger just for the raw sound of it. Loved it. still do. it was like a metal album recorded like a punk album.

Load has really grown on me over the years, love the way it sounds on vinyl. Gave St. Anger another shot last year and I think the combination of 2020 being a shit year and turning 40 made me appreciate what a mess it is lol. Reload….meh

I'll have to revisit St Anger again.  I remember enjoying it but without the damn metallic drum.

if you have the cd/dvd package, put on the dvd. it's their live rehearsals of the entire album. I actually like it better.
