    These people are crazy.

All Trump has/had to do is/was tout the very vaccines he wanted credit for making so quickly and tens of thousands more people (maybe hundreds of thousands) might very well still be alive and life would be even more back to normal by this point.
This tells you something important.. Trump is a mouthpiece for the uneducated (fools), he's not necessarily the leader of them.  He channels them, he doesn't influence them.
I think he has a lot of influence. My point was if he was vocal about getting the vaccine and vocal about the benefits and how everyone should get them, you'd likely have millions more lining up for the shots and tens of thousands less dead. Just imagine if he got his shot on television, imagine him on commercials touting the vaccine's benefits, imagine him talking about that nonstop instead of the election he lost by 7 million votes.

You're saying you think they still would not trust the vaccine despite all of that happening? Maybe I am not understanding you correctly...

Here is what Trump said about the vaccine:

"I would recommend it and I would recommend it to a lot of people that don't want to get it and a lot of those people voted for me, frankly," Trump told "Fox News Primetime."
Still, he continued: "But it is a great vaccine. It is a safe vaccine and it is something that works."

The people that are choosing to not take the vaccine are not going to listen to anyone.
I commended him at the time for doing that. But he honestly needed to do more. these types of things take campaigns, not a one soundbite and you're done.
    Darwinspeed, all.

But DACA has been an issue well before Trump started pretending to be a republican.

His lie about the election being stolen and the vaccine/mask reluctance are obviously new as of the past year and a half. I firmly believe a significant amount of those people wouldn't behave/think the way they do had Trump simply acted like a responsible human being.

I'm not convinced of that.  This base is just so reactionary on every issue.  He was touting and pushing the vaccines all through the second half of 2020.  It was clear that he thought getting them out before the election was a winning issue.  Now he is silent and I believe that's because the base made clear where they were on it and he won't buck them.

I disagree. I think he is silent because he's not president anymore and doesn't care if they get vaccinated or not.

But if he won re election he'd have to encourage them to get the vaccine he wanted credit for getting made so quickly. I don't see why people, who just months earlier were happy about the vaccine coming out sooner than expected, would suddenly shift to being anti vaccine while the Trump administration would be the one's getting shots in our arms.

I would imagine Ron Johnson, and Rand Paul etc etc etc would not have changed their public views on the vaccines either had Trump.

But who the hell knows. I would love to read a sci fi alternate history of what the world would look like had the election not gone our way. You ever read the book or watch the tv show "Man in the High Castle?" We need one of those for modern times...

I would love to have lived an alternate history where any other person but Trump was president at the time the pandemic hit, and that person focused on evidence-based public health measures that pretty much the entire country ended up buying into.
    you do. it's called "canada".
    Darwinspeed, all.

    Cheers,

Conservatives want to boot Cheney, Kinzinger from House GOP
    By ALAN FRAM

WASHINGTON (AP) — Conservative lawmakers made a push Thursday to boot Republican Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger out of the House GOP because the two defied party leaders and joined the chamber's special committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack by supporters of then-President Donald Trump.

The effort by the hard-right House Freedom Caucus faces uncertain prospects. House Republican leaders have exhibited little interest in acting quickly against the two mavericks, which could fuel a fight that would distract from the party's preferred focus on issues such as inflation, crime and immigration.

The move is the latest example of turmoil over the GOP's message and image, even as Trump's shadow continues to loom large over the party.

Banishing Cheney, R-Wyo., and Kinzinger, R-Ill., from the House Republican organization, called the GOP conference, would threaten an end to their committee assignments. It would also deny them other normally routine privileges such as attending closed-door Republican strategy meetings.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., who leads the roughly 40-member Freedom Caucus, told reporters that Cheney and Kinzinger chose to “join the Democrats on a witch hunt” against Republicans. He said it makes little sense to let them into private meetings where GOP lawmakers strategize against Democrats.

Biggs said letting the two into such sessions would be like having “two spies sitting right there. You knew they were spies, but you couldn’t remove them.”

Cheney and Kinzinger are outspoken Trump critics who agreed to let House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., appoint them to the Jan. 6 investigative committee.

That's infuriated Republicans. They've refused to name any members to that panel after Pelosi blocked two would-be GOP appointees whose fervent pro-Trump views, she said, would jeopardize the investigation's integrity.

Cheney spokesperson Jeremy Adler said Freedom Caucus members “represent a dangerous rot that is rooted in the Big Lie, conspiracy theories, bigotry, and disrespect for the rule of law and our law enforcement.” He said Cheney is working to “save the party of Lincoln and Reagan.”

Kinzinger spokesperson Maura Gillespie said “these are the same members who push conspiracy theories to their constituents.” She said Kinzinger wants “the truth and answers that the American people deserve.”

The Freedom Caucus wants the House GOP to approve a rule automatically removing lawmakers from the conference who accept a committee assignment that the party has not approved.

It takes only a majority of House Republicans to change an internal rule. That's a lower hurdle than the two-thirds majority Republican rules require to remove a lawmaker from the conference.

But the entire House, including Democrats, formally makes committee assignments and could theoretically overrule an internal GOP vote.

    continue....

Total allegiance to the Party and the Great Leader instead of the country is demanded. Free thinking apparently isn't just frowned on, it is banned and banished. Somehow I seem to remember history classes talking about things like this in other countries.

This is what THEY are about. The rapture is coming. Because THEY’RE going to bring it.

FORT WORTH — The pastor was already pacing when he gave the first signal. Then he gave another, and another, until a giant video screen behind him was lit up with an enormous colored map of Fort Worth divided into four quadrants.

Greed, the map read over the west side. Competition, it said over the east side. Rebellion, it said over the north part of the city. Lust, it said over the south.

It was an hour and a half into the 11 a.m. service of a church that represents a rapidly growing kind of Christianity in the United States, one whose goal includes bringing under the authority of a biblical God every facet of life, from schools to city halls to Washington, where the pastor had traveled a month after the Jan. 6 insurrection and filmed himself in front of the U.S. Capitol saying quietly, “Father, we declare America is yours.”

Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw told supporters Trump lost to Biden. The Republican was heckled and called a RINO.

Few would criticize Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw for not being conservative enough.
The second-term Texas congressman opposes abortion, trumpets his pro-gun stances and defended President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. In May, he launched a website inviting service members to blow the whistle on the military’s diversity and inclusion programs.
“Enough is enough,” he wrote in a May 28 Twitter post. “We won’t let our military fall to woke ideology.”
But at a GOP fundraiser in Illinois on Wednesday night, the Texan clashed with a fellow Republican after Crenshaw told the crowd the 2020 election was not stolen and the results would not be overturned. Trump falsely claimed he won the race long after the electoral college backed the winner, President Biden, and dozens of judges rejected claims of election fraud.
“Don’t kid yourself into believing that’s why we lost. It’s not,” Crenshaw told the crowd.
Bobby Piton, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Illinois, disagreed. In a 54-second clip posted to his campaign’s YouTube account, Piton can be seen interrupting Crenshaw, saying he has “plenty of proof” the presidential election was stolen and the outcome would be reversed.

    continues....

Every Republican out there ends up being called a RINO the second they stop kissing the ring (or perhaps another body part) of Trump, or say something that contradicts the delusional fantasy world that the Alt Right have created.

Don't see many political ads here, but just saw one by the GOP during an NFL game.

Praying on the elderly, Pelosi and Sanders are coming to steal your Medicare.

    LOL.

did it actually say "praying" or was that your typo?

also ironic that two of the oldest people on the hill are "preying on the elderly".
