load has some fantastic metallica songs
    aint my bitch
    bleeding me
    until it sleeps
outlaw torn (one of my all time favorites)
    king nothing
    hero of the day
I went nuts at the Winnipeg show when King Nothing started. Love that song.

King Nothing is another one I really liked.  It took time to adjust to this album though, I won't lie.  Any diehard wasn't drinking the juice from this album.  It had a different sound from the previous albums and maybe the producer was to blame for that I'm sure.  He wanted "his" sound and not a Metallica sound, that was for sure.

Load is fascinating. Not in their top five but a solid album. Reload I can't defend. Just can't. A few years ago I was a fair-weather fan and decided to listen to their albums start to finish and I was amazed that Reload was the only one I couldn't find a lot of high lights on. This band is knock out phenomenal from start to finish. I found the same with R.E.M. (although their last few were hard to swallow). Metallica is amazing, just flat out a great band - no matter the genre. And I do love Until it Sleeps, and adn the thrashing. It's all good.
    98: St. Louis. 2000: Alpine. 2003: Chicago. 2006: Chicago Night 2, Milwaukee Night 1. 2007: Chicago (Lolla). 2009: Chicago 1 & 2. 2011: Alpine 1 & 2. 2013: Chicago & LA Night 1. 2016: Chicago 1 & 2. 2018: Chicago 1 & 2.

That metallic drum in St Anger didn't make you want to jab pool sticks in your ears?

Take that damn drum away and that album is wonderful, maybe a wee bit better mix on it too.  Down the highs a bit.

Hardwired is a wonderful album to me.  It ticks the boxes for me.

I fucking dug the shit out of St Anger just for the raw sound of it. Loved it. still do. it was like a metal album recorded like a punk album.
    Darwinspeed, all.

Load has really grown on me over the years, love the way it sounds on vinyl. Gave St. Anger another shot last year and I think the combination of 2020 being a shit year and turning 40 made me appreciate what a mess it is lol. Reload….meh

yeah reload is more of a Load castoff.

I'll have to revisit St Anger again.  I remember enjoying it but without the damn metallic drum.

if you have the cd/dvd package, put on the dvd. it's their live rehearsals of the entire album. I actually like it better.

I've been on a big Metallica kick as of late. Been particularly obsessed with And Justice For All. And speaking of Justice, if you're a member of the official website, there's a "30 Years of Justice" download that's free. Just a live compilation of all the songs, but it's pretty cool.

It’s a family like they always say. That’s why I loved their 30th anniversary shows. They played with Jason, Dave Mustaine, Ron McGovey, Lloyd Grant (played on the first recording of Hit The Lights), Bob Rock, John Marshall (guitar tech that filled in for James on guitar in ‘86 and ‘92), and friends like Ozzy and Geezer Butler. And Cliff’s dad was there. Would’ve loved to have been there, but the bootlegs will suffice. Unlike PJ20 where I was there…but it wasn’t released.

I was listening to Load last night. Honestly, I still like that record. I love how the band evolved over time. Their look was a tad too contrived and an attempt to look "alternative", but I liked the music.
Man, I LOVE that album. So underrated.

Really want the super deluxe Black Album set, but it’s a lot of money when the vinyl will just sit around collecting dust. Wish there was another option to get all the CDs and DVDs.

Death Magnetic has some great stuff happening in those songs.. I like that album, that was basically Rob's introduction album to everyone since St. Anger was happening before he arrived. As far as the "black album" box set, I had to pull the trigger on that. I have the other ones they released, it's just cool shit IMO. If a band puts out a cool box set of an album I enjoy, I'm down. Definitely looking forward to spinning that Moscow show, what a beast of a concert/crowd/energy/etc....

I remember loving the verse of My Apocalypse the first time I listened to it...but then the bridge kicked in and holy hell...this was the Metallica of old to me. Was so pumped I was trying so hard not to headbang in my office at the time.

A lot of great songs eh. BBAS is made for air drums, it's a fun game trying to memorise all the fills. SAR didn't grab me and TDTNC feels too much like a mashup of Fade To Black and One. Love TWJYL and U3 I even enjoy.

Biggest bugbear is how loose it is to me. Rubin wanted to keep the spirit of Puppets in mind for it-but Puppets is one of the tightest metal albums ever and if I remember correctly (and it certainly sounds like it) Lars didn't play to a click for DM. The difference between DM and Hardwired is stark in that respect.
