I couldn't find the exact number in the few moments I have left, but its been reported many times that an overwhelming majority of cases are from indoor private gatherings. This has nothing to do with going to the zoo. 500,000 people aren't dead because people were enjoying outside and looking at giraffes. Something like 40% of deaths are in nursing homes, pretty sure they're not going to going to outdoor sporting events and the zoo. Anyone who choses to believe that being outside is dangerous is choosing to not follow the science and data.
Outdoors is fine, as long as you still practice safety procedures.

That’s interesting. Many areas in the US have been allowing outdoor sports and places like zoos to be open for a while now. We actually went to our local zoo over this past weekend. Gyms, restaurants, etc have been open for a long time with face mask regulations. Drive in cinemas never closed and was an easy outlet for entertainment during all of this...PJNB said:Back on some positive news. UK just had a major announcement and I hope NA follows suit with a similar positive announcement. This is how you roll out how to reopen. Not the trickles of negative news we have been getting the last couple of months even with vaccines rolling out and numbers dropping off.

Reading is HARD.

Show me data that says gyms and restaurants that enforce face masks and social distancing are causing huge infection numbers. I’m not talking about bars, but restaurants where they have people spaced out.dignin said:

As far as I am aware, most spread was due to family and friends getting together in households for extended periods of time, not wearing masks, etc...Post edited by PJPOWER on0 -
What capacity are you guys at in Texas? Nj just raised indoor dining to 35% capacity. I m not sure about gyms.PJPOWER said:

In my city specifically they just started allowing them to operate at 75% capacity. Not sure about gyms...mcgruff10 said:

how is this an example of "reading is hard"? outdoor zoos are not the same, obviously, as indoor gyms or dining.dignin said:

Exactly. The majority died from being in a nursing home or hanging out in someone else’s house, not their own house, or zoos, or gyms, or restaurants.dignin said:

Why is everything black or white? Why is it stay home and do nothing or don’t even wear a mask at the store?
Neither side listening to the medical professionals and science. Very sad.hippiemom = goodness0 -
How did those old people get the virus? Or was it just old people getting it and spreading it to old people?cincybearcat said:

Maybe people under 55 can't spread the virus? Must have missed that scientific paper.
Judging by the responses here I can see why 500,000 have died in a year. Might as well just revert back to "it's just the flu".

And if you paid any attention you would know I'm a big proponent of kids in school during this pandemic.
But if anyone is going to take what the US has done during this pandemic as some kind of positive, I'm going to call that out. You guys blew it. The numbers don't lie. That was my point in my initial comment.

If the schools are safe to open...so are small business and gyms..
Even though schools are not that safe. They are just a babysitting service anymore...Give Peas A Chance…0 -

Yes restaurants have worried me all along. When distanced and decent ventilation they have proven to not be as dangerous as I thought. Problem was people and places haven’t done that consistently.I’ll agree that my statement didn’t include all the info so not a great statement.
But the science shows masks and distancing makes places quite safe. So why are people ignoring that?hippiemom = goodness0 -
Can be and have proven to be pretty damn safe when the protocols are used. But you continue to ignore itMeltdown99 said:If the schools are safe to open...so are small business and gyms..

Black and white again huh? So if you think some things can be safe (because, you know, the science says it is), then you are saying the US did a good job? Hell no, We screwed the pooch. Mostly cause we ignored the need for masks and distancing by way too many peopledignin said:

So are you not accepting the fact that the vast majority catch it from private gatherings, and not restaurants or outside activities? Businesses that follow social distancing and other guidelines only account for a small percent of all cases.dignin said:

So maybe we are just confusing a few things.
1) The US really messed this up by not having national standards and not enforcing standards and generally individuals not following proper protocol.
2) Separate from that - there seem to be a lot of data to show how to operate in a safe manner in this environment.
My question remains - for those that were pissed off at trump and the US response to ignore science...do you know want to follow the science which talks about open schools, opening businesses, how outdoor activities are safe (distancing the key), etc now? And if not, why?
