No one is really nitpicking your price over a couple of bucks... just giving you a heads up that your offer is like 60% below recent sales and responding to your declaration that very few 98s sell for more than $400.  You opened the door to the discussion... don't shoot the messengers.  =)

  • I suggested you post a price, because there are people out there like me that have one - but don't want to engage and negotiate every time someone posts an ISO for something in my collection.  As suspected, we'd not be anywhere close on price.  There were a couple ebay sales over the past few years not registering on EB.  I recall BIN's for $1200 and $1600 that sold immediately, and another ebay listing that was taken down and sold privately for $1600.

I guess I was way off with $600 lol. The 98’s are the most coveted. They’ll just keep increasing in value. I think it’s one of those cases where back then most people didn’t care about buying them at the show and the one’s that did probably didn’t take good care of them. The remaining few in mint condition will keep going up in price for sure.

Fair enough, but as a buyer, I'd rather have the conversation with a seller individually - like most sales of collectibles happen.  That's why I didn't post a price.

I don't think $400 is unreasonable, because the only available objective evidence for sales is the Ebeans stuff (which historically average is $433.xx) + a couple of much higher prices more recently.  Anecdotally, you believe you've got something worth more than $400 based on unlisted Ebay sales.  I get it, but its not a factor I consider unless I can confirm it myself.   I don't think that alone sets market value, because as any seller knows, what you have is only valued by what someone will pay for it.  If you're actively trying to sell it and can get more than $400, that's its value then.  If you're not actively trying to sell it, it does me zero good to try to entice you by posting a price I don't want to pay.  In short, the fair price is what a buyer and seller agree it is, which is why I wanted to find a seller first and go from there.  I understand there's an argument against that.  But having people without a dog in the fight jump in with opinions isn't helpful, because price can be so subjective.

I appreciate the insight.  Let me know if you truly want to discuss some number.  If not, I get it.  Thanks

You are correct; I posted that...after I was asked to post a price.  That's a pretty odd expectation for a buyer of a collectible item.  I am looking for a willing seller; not trying to convince a seller to give it to me.  That's sort of like an auction for the seller.  As a buyer, I want to know if one's for sale and what they would sell it for.  I'm not lobbying a seller to give it to me.  Sellers can go to an auction if they want to nitpick price.

I didn't think it would spin into a mostly-anecdotal discussion about what the price should be.  That's fine; we can disagree about what the vast majority of them have sold for.  My frustration is the advice about posting a price and subsequent discussion appears to be mostly from people who didn't have one to sell, which was my whole goal in the first place, (finding a seller).

Anything, thanks for the discussion I guess.

If you're not in a hurry I'd wait for one to come up for sale. Keep an eye on ebay and this forum, maybe facebook or whatever. In my experience trying to get someone to sell something they never had intentions to would usually require an enticing dollar value. Drop a g-note figure and I'll bet you'd get someone's attention. You could probably score this one for around $600 if you're patient. $400 would be a real score. Good luck!
I’ll echo this advice. I wasn’t in the market for it but right place, right time on a Friday randomly searching eBay: picked this one up for $75 in 2013.

No argument here.  This a forum where posters are bought and sold everyday. You posted misleading information multiple times that most 98 posters do not sell for more than $400.  It’s a little unrealistic for you to expect that there wouldn’t be a discussion about current values contrary to what you posted.  With that being said... I really hope you find your ISO and that you get it for $400.

But why??? Do you have one  to sell? If not, why do you care, if it’s not to win some dumb arcane debate about the appropriate price for a poster you’re not selling?

But why??? Do you have one  to sell? If not, why do you care, if it’s not to win some dumb arcane debate about the appropriate price for a poster you’re not selling?
Lol.  It’s not a debate. You asked for input and then got mad that people said your offer was off base.  I didn’t post until you solicited advice.

Just pretend we all said $400 is a generous offer and we can all forget this ever happened.

Read my original post and point out where I turned this into a debate about a price.  Sheesh man. Give it up if you don’t have one.

It's a discussion forum. People gonna discuss. Particularly when you bump it to the top every day for a week. You could try craigslist or something if you just want to put up an ad with no discussion.

Not to someone who thinks 98s usually sell for $400 or less 😂

So you have one to sell but only to people who share your views on the prices of a class of Pearl Jam posters?  Cool.

I do hope you get one though. It would be a good thing if they're really obtainable at that price

And this Vant is why I don’t even bother with LDs.

A few years ago, someone was on here being all emotional about getting a Emek Portland poster for their significant other for a birthday gift, or something. I did this person a solid and sold them a SE that I had. The price was exceptionally reasonable, let’s say it was under $150 shipped when they were going for much more. Trying helping the person out. Not more than a month later, that joker was on here trying to peddle it at an extremely inflate price in an attempt to upgrade it to an AP. Stating that the significant other really wanted one of those not the SE. and after that I was done.

Thanks Jer. That’s awful.  I’m sorry that happened to you.  Good on you for trying to do a cool thing.

I get it.  People have different opinions and merch is valuable.  All I wanted was a seller to deal with directly.  I should’ve guessed and am disappointed that I let myself get into an - gah! - internet argument on this board.  That’s so 2011!

It’s all good. I’m not upset or offended and I wish all well. Just resigned now that this thread will decidedly NOT result in finding a seller to negotiate with!  Lol

Take care all.  If someone does want to discuss a sale, let me know.

Something very similar happened to me ages ago. Unless you know someone personally, sell for nothing less than full market value. So often you see sob stories with no way of knowing if that person eventually flips it. It definitely happens.

On topic, if Hartford is one of these low end 98s I'm hearing about, I'm your man. But sell your Minneapolis to Vant.
