You might have better luck posting your best offer.
Could be, but I'm not sure the issue is people are sitting on one waiting for the right price to be posted!

Never know unless you try! I usually wouldn't respond unless there was an offer included. A lot of people who post these grail ISOs aren't willing to make a realistic offer so it winds up being a waste of time.

OK, but if I post a price and no one responds, you guys have to sell me yours. :)

$400.  Hard to gauge what the true value is.  98s are always harder to find, espresso beans hasn't had a sale in a long time, the all-time average there is $433.xx.  If I'm way off base, someone can feel free to tell me (in an email negotiation over a sale preferably!), but I don't think I am.  Very few 98s go for a lot more than that.  This one historically hasn't.

I'm open to discussing if someone actually has one and wants to sell.  $400, no fees to you, and it will be hung amongst the best-framed of music and sports prints in the upper midwest! ;)

I’m no expert but most 98s go for more than $400... you might need to be closer to double your offer to pry one loose.  Best of luck in your search... hope you get one soon. =)

If that’s true, I don’t know what sources people are basing that on.  Ebeans has a few high listed ones, but most simply haven’t sold that high.  I’ll pay the value for it, but I haven’t seen anything that suggests it’s significantly higher than that.  That’s all I’m getting at.  I did my homework when I picked that number; it’s it’s way off, I’m happy to be wrong.  But it’d need to see why before I double that money for a poster!

The last sale listed on ebeans was $1000 and the last on collectionzz was $1100. Sales in the $400 range were all quite a few years ago. Over time they become more scarce, prices go up. Of course it's possible someone will let one go for $400 but most sellers look to the most recent sales as a guide, not sales from 5-10 years ago.

This is why posting a price from a buyer perspective isn’t necessarily productive.  It appears to encourage people who don’t have what you want grading your price (thanks I guess?), and in doing so, gives the seller the jump on the price point.  I guess that’s helpful, but in my mind, two sales in how many years don’t establish market value.  Ultimately, I had hoped that was something I had hoped to discuss with an actual seller. So if someone has one and wants to talk, let’s talk!  Believe me, this is not an urgent quest or a holy grail.  If someone has one and wants to work something out, cool.  If not, that’s cool too.

As far as sources go... recent sales here, eBay sales and as someone else already posted - Collectionzz - are all good resources.  I still would disagree that very few 98's go for more than $400.  I can think of a bunch of 1998's that are easily $1k or more off the top of my head - St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Boston, Dallas, Seattle, Melbourne, Las Vegas, Chicago, Indy, Knoxville, East Lansing, etc.   When it comes to 98's I think $400 is probably only going to get you a handful of the least in demand posters, such as LA or Atlanta.  And even those deals are hard to come by.

I hope someone comes through and hooks you up for $400... that would be a really nice gesture.  =)

I guess here’s my point:  my thread was created to find a seller to negotiate a price.  Not to debate pricing.  I was told I’d get interest by posting a price.  I did that.  And received some indication that my price point was low.  Unless one of you has one to sell, I’m not sure what the point of pushing a price listing is?  I get it: it’s the internet and everyone’s opinion is very important but please read my initial post: it was to find someone interested in selling.  There should be no confusion about that or about how price is determined in a sale: what a buyer is willing to pay and what a seller is willing to give it for.  That typically happens in a negotiation between a seller who is interested in moving it and a buyer who wants one. It should be abundantly clear that I was not posting here to twist the arm of someone who has one but doesn’t want to sell - why would I do that?  That would only result in a higher price.  And maybe that price is fair or not, but having bought and sold lots of stuff online, I can tell you a fair price is mostly subjective.  Depends on the goals and intentions of both buyer and seller...whom I hoped this thread would find!

So yeah.  If you don’t have one to sell and your goal was to simply make a point to me about what you think my price was low, then I guess I’d wonder what the point of going out of your way was?  Maybe I am wrong, but again, if you’re not a seller, why stop and comment?  I get it - it’s the internet, but the idea that there are some sellers who really want to move this print but are waiting for the right seller to post a price is a little silly.  Which leaves me with this: the price point - whether accurate historically or not - is now, at least for buyers on this board, what you say it is.  Thanks?  But as a seller of sports memorabilia, I am very confident that two sales among many historically do not set fair market value, which is again only one factor in how an agreed upon price gets set by motivated buyer and motivated seller. I get it that you disagree.  Ultimately, if you’re not a seller, I’m not sure how interested or helpful that opinion is, lest the price points get driven up further! Lol.

So...again, anyone have one they want to sell?

Anyone got a Mickey Mantle rookie for me for $500? No rush, I can wait.
Not the same thing at all but again, thanks for your help.  Good grief man.
If people ignore my unrealistic price because they don't have one to sell and don't want to let me know I'm way off, that doesn't help me reach my goal of finding a Mantle. If people let me know that I might want to rethink my offer because one sold last week for $5 million, it's true that it doesn't help me reach my goal of obtaining a Mantle for $500, but it would be helpful to form a more realistic idea of what it will likely cost me if I'm a serious buyer.

If you're not in a hurry I'd wait for one to come up for sale. Keep an eye on ebay and this forum, maybe facebook or whatever. In my experience trying to get someone to sell something they never had intentions to would usually require an enticing dollar value. Drop a g-note figure and I'll bet you'd get someone's attention. You could probably score this one for around $600 if you're patient. $400 would be a real score. Good luck!
