I don't love it. He's a moderate, appointed to SCOTUS by Obama hoping he'd actually get someone in. This feels like a move to appease the other side. I don't see him holding traitorous feet to the fire.

from wapo....Biden plans prime-time television program on night of inauguration
Biden’s inauguration team is planning a prime-time television broadcast to air on the night of his inauguration, aiming to showcase national unity amid one of the most disruptive transfers of power in presidential history.
The 90-minute program, called “Celebrating America," is slated to air at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time and will take the place of traditional inauguration balls. It will be hosted by Tom Hanks and will include remarks from Biden and Harris, as well as a number of musical performances from artists that include Ant Clemons, Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato, and Justin Timberlake.
The televised event, news of which was first reported by Politico, is another way in which Biden’s inauguration has been affected by the coronavirus. Planners are urging people to stay at home for the event, and a whole host of traditional events are being reshaped as a result of health concerns. It also comes shortly after a Trump-inspired mob attacked the U.S. Capitol, which has raised new security concerns for the inauguration.
The prime-time program is meant to showcase the strength of American democracy — which could come on a day amid new protests from Trump supporters — and shine a light on front-line workers who have been helping Americans combat the coronavirus pandemic.
It is expected to be carried live by ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and MSNBC, according to Biden’s inauguration committee, as well as streamed live on a range of social media platforms.
“This inauguration presents a unique opportunity to spotlight the resilience and spirit of an America United," Tony Allen, the chief executive of the Presidential Inaugural Committee, said in a statement.
"Our first priority is safety — so while many of us will be watching safely from our homes, we are creating real moments of connection that highlight a new inclusive American era of leadership that works for and represents all Americans,” he added.

So Lady GaGa and Jennifer Lopez are the chosen performers for Biden’s inauguration? I didn’t dislike GaGa’s Super Bowl singing of the National Anthem, but a Lopez performance for a POTUS inauguration just strikes me as a bit of an odd selection. Nothing against the woman, just a weird choice in my opinion.0

This guy needs to take a break from unity and reaching across the aisle for a minute unless he just wants to get nothing done until the republicans get more power in ‘22 and then really don’t let him get anything done. We’ve seen this before when Obama foolishly tried to do the same thing when he had a majority and then spent the next 6 years being stonewalled. Dems have two years to undo a lot of damage and get real lasting changes going. Don’t waste it thinking you can work with a party of whom most of the elected representatives believe Donald Trump did nothing impeachable, not to mention those that legit still don’t believe he won the election. I just don’t understand why...I mean at least give your self a year of ramming through the Dem wishlist...coming out of the gate compromising with the party of white supremacist insurrection seems like the start of a bad 4 years.

security plans for the Inauguration...
Ahead of the inauguration, much of D.C. closed off like never before
By Lauren Tierney, Tim Meko, Hannah Dormido, Laris Karklis and Joe Fox
January 15 at 7:05 PM EST
In an unprecedented move, the Mall and much of the surrounding area is closed to the public days ahead of next week’s presidential inauguration. Hundreds of thousands of spectators typically watch the ceremonies, but this year, the Secret Service has launched a massive security operation to protect the Biden inauguration following last week’s short-lived insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Vehicle traffic in much of the city will be prohibited or limited to residents and businesses only. Metro is shuttering stations in the city’s core and near the Mall. Street closures will continue through Thursday, and are subject to change at the discretion of the Secret Service.
[How to get around — and avoid — downtown Washington during the inauguration. It won’t be easy.]
The road closures and parking restrictions affect streets around Capitol Hill, the Lincoln Memorial, Union Station, the Mall and the White House. Many of the restrictions began Tuesday and are expected to remain in place until Thursday after the inauguration.
[What you need to know about Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration]
“We know this is very inconvenient for our residents and businesses. I want to say thank you for your cooperation and flexibility,” D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) said. “Clearly we are in uncharted waters.”
A raging pandemic is forcing most inaugural events online and the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, which left five people dead, is prompting heightened security.
[How pro-Trump insurrectionists broke into the U.S. Capitol]
Fencing is being erected around the Capitol, as well as around businesses and other federal buildings throughout the city.
The barricades are varied throughout the city and along the Mall, ranging from smaller metal barriers that are typically moved to corral crowds to tall metal fencing reinforced with heavy concrete blocks. Some fences are topped with razor wire, similar to fencing that was used in the summer to surround the White House.
Along with street closures and physical barricades, the National Guard has been deployed in the city, with additional troops sent in from other states as well. More than 20,000 troops are expected to be flood the city ahead of the inauguration.
About this story
Closures and barriers are subject to change and may be modified at the discretion of the Secret Service. Inaugural road closure information sourced from the U.S. Secret Service. Fencing and barrier information gathered from Post reporting as of Jan. 14.

Its so nice to be on here again...even nicer to have Biden and Harris in charge from now on. Thank you to all that helped to make it happen. I'm so glad that these Trump days are behind us. I think we're all suffering from some PTSD from the last 4 years. It would have been nice to have Bernie as President, but I understand.Post edited by pickupyourwill on0
