I think the opposite. My initial reaction is waterfall 2 is a better album. No b side vibe at all. Some of these songs shine. It feels more lived in/warm. Waterfall felt a little distant to me

Just finished listening and it is sounding really good to my ears. These are not b-sides, they are simply better songs than on Waterfall. The guitar playing is damn good and JJ vocals as usual are outstanding. Waterfall just never resonated with me and I tried but, it just always left me unsatisfied.

I don’t think there’s anything on here that touches the better half of Waterfall. Tropics, In It’s Infancy...now those are some fucking jams!! I like Believe as a starter and Spring and Like A River along with Compound Fracture really make a more complete MmJ album experience to me.

This is meant more a brag on 1 than to slag 2.

Could’ve really been a near perfect single album but then you might not have quite the variety of a typical MMJ album.

Very excited tomsee how the new one blossoms. I generally end up adoring anything on which I make a negative public statement.

I really dig it. Feel You and Wasted were the standouts to me on first listen. I think the visuals on the stream helped settle me into the vibe. Looking forward to taking it in on its own.

Ive never disliked an MMJ album on first listen, so its no surprise I like this one...but it does feel a bit different here. Ive played it 4 times now, and the more I listen, the more I love. My way too early assessment is that this is the worthy follow up to Z that Ive been waiting for for the past 15 years. That's not to say that the subsequent 3 albums were bad, but Z was their masterpiece, and I dont think theyve realeased an album as cohesive and pure since. I think this is it. I hope so. Looking forward to hearing it grow overtime. Cant believe it took them 5 years to let us hear these songs, but Im glad they did and it was worth the wait.

I thought all the songs were solid and not a B-Sides/leftover type of situation.  Glad to have some fresh tunes in these times!

Saw them at ACL about ten years ago.  They were headlining one stage and Stevie Wonder was on the other.  We started with Stevie.   MMJ was so loud that Stevie’s audience couldnt hear Stevie at all.   But man you cant be mad when One Big Holiday is cranked up.   They were great. We left Stevie after watching a few songs.

Standouts upon first listen for me are Feel You and Wasted. It is going to take me a while to get used to the mellow tempo that persists throughout the majority of the album but overall I think I am going to like it more with each spin.

Glad I picked up the deluxe vinyl - that stuff went fast. A few standouts so far, but will have to spin more. Didn't grab me immediately like Part I, but that can be a good thing.....

A remaster would pique my interest more than purple vinyl.
  • Why purple? Looks like shit with the cover art.

    same

Edit to say: the Orange & green splash vinyl with animated zoetrope label is so much cooler then just a purple vinyl too.

A light blue would have been preferable to match.

That was the very first time where I assigned colors to each guy. So I said, "OK, Gene's going to be red because he splits blood and he has fire. So he's red." He was easy. And I said, "Ace? Blue." Space, the sky -- I don't know, Ace and blue made sense. And then I said, "OK, green for the jungle cat." And I did not know what to do for Paul (laughs). I scratched my head for a while on that one. I said, "Actually, we don't know what Paul is (laughs). We know who everybody else is, but we don't know what he is. He's got a star on his face, what the fuck is that? (laughs) "Oh, he's the lover. Oh, I see." I said, "What the hell is that?" I said, "Purple. Purple is passion."

So. I ordered Waterfall II vinyl from mmj as soon as it was announced. When I ordered, it was still listed on the site as limited (1,000 I think?) said it would ship late August, came with a signed Clinch photo, whole 9 yards.

Soon after it sells out and they relist another batch that will ship in Sept. I figured I was safe since I ordered almost immediately. Few weeks later they email to “confirm” that my order will not have signed photo and will ship in Sept. i wrote back and said no, not correct, I clearly ordered in the first batch. They basically said - no, sorry, it was all “while supplies last”. BS, but ok.

MMJ posts an update about the delay last night, then I notice people chiming in that they got theirs but quality is horrible, color is not as advertised, sound is bad, etc. I went on discogs, same info.

I look and VMP still has some of their pressing of 1,000 available, and I know they press their own, so I said screw it. I called the mmj store, cancelled, and ordered from VMP.

Well, thanks for taking that ride with me!

Really shit qc all around it seems. I got the standard clear vinyl at first. Sounds great but had a notch in the first song so returned it for the deluxe. The color isn’t remotely close to what was advertised.

Yeah really disappointed to hear about the sound quality after all the other ordering/shipping issues. I only have a few pieces from VMP but they’re all well done so I hope I made the right move.

Yep. The deluxe definitely has a mild splash going on one part of it, but it's on the whole a solid color - definitely had some kinks they need to work out the next go around. The vinyl feels really solid though, and the packaging is nice. The signed Danny Clinch photo is beautiful though, and makes up for the vinyl...a bit, anyways.

Here is my update. I received my first copy of Waterfall II from VMP a couple weeks ago. The sound quality was actually quite good overall, but I had an area of non fill on Side I and a loud pop on Side II (during Wasted), followed by subsequent pops on every rotation. I cleaned the hell out of it but never improved. I told VMP, sent video, and they replaced it.

Got my replacement yesterday and it sounds good as well, without the 2 issues above. Sound is good overall, not great, but much better than what the apparent version from MMJ store sounds like. It does have a slight warp, but it doesn't impact playback.
