Term limits = not voting for the incumbent.

So simple, but people can't seem to figure it out in the voting booth.

  • Seems the hair salon has been doing business since April in violation of San Francisco’s covid restrictions. Seems the owner also erroneously thought Nancy was behind the lockdown of such businesses. You’d think the anti-maskers would be holding her out to be a hero.

Interesting.  I just looked up the senate.  While it's clear there are those in there WAY TOO LONG, it's a smaller amount then I thought.

30% have been in over 20 years
    50% total > 15 years

I am for term limits...unsure exactly where I would cap it for the Senate.  Had thought 3 6-yr terms maybe?  Or fewer terms, longer years to reduce election nonsense.

If the elected representative in a district or state is doing a good enough job for them, why should they be jettisoned because someone in another state doesn’t like their politics? “Sorry, Cincy, you’ve been doing a great job for the company but we have a limit to how long you can be in your position, go clean out your desk.”

Term limits are lazy and stupid. You’d have a better result taking the obscene amounts of money required out of the equation.

I see your point, despite the quote feature being weird.

Why do we have term limits on president then?

I would say, as I think about it, perhaps only for Senators who are much more powerful on the national level and far less linked to their constituents.

Originally there wasn’t a term limit for POTUS and an amendment was passed after Roosevelt’s death during his 4th term. I don’t know the history behind the amendment drive and eventual passage. Might have been motivated by his attempt to stack the Supreme Court with 4 more justices? Dunno.

Congress is a complicated place to pass legislation and designed by the founders as such. It takes at least two years to figure it out and much more to ultimately become effective. Why should Congress be run by a constant bunch of amateurs?

I am definitely for term limits.  Imagine if Moscow Mitch was gone.  We probably would not be starring down the barrel of a one-party system right now.  Parties would have to consistently re-invent themselves (at least at the state level).  Politicians would not really be able to focus on keeping their cushy situation for the rest of their lives.

i don't think term limits should be imposed on being in congress, but maybe on being the speaker?

I agree, I don’t think someone third in line for president should get a lifetime appointment.

Answering for the Speaker of the House: No.
    Damnit Nancy!  Why!?!?
    It was a “setup.”

So I guess we’re supposed to believe that the business owner instructed Madame Speaker that she could only get her (also noncompliant) indoor haircut if she showed up to the salon without a mask.

Pelosi wants an apology from the salon owner.

“Tambourines and elephants are playin’ in the band.”
The owner who “set her up” is now receiving death threats.
Ridiculous. And I honestly don’t get the whole setup excuse.
    1) she tries to schedule an appointment with her at home hair stylist
    2) at home hair stylist isn't available. said hair stylist recommends her old salon.
    3) nancy contacts salon, they say "sure, come on down, we're allowed one person indoors"
    4) she wears a mask, apparently pulling it down briefly when walking from one room to the next (not verifiable that she wore it the rest of the time)
    5) salon owner claims she was upset that nancy was allowed and no one else was. um, take responsibility for your establishment.
    6) apparently the new "outdoor" rule came into effect that same day (correct me if I'm wrong)
    7) salon owner was so upset at her own inability to run her own business properly, she sent secret footage to fox news.

a setup is certainly plausible in my mind.

look at the footage. she had a mask. it was down around her neck. she claims that was the only point she moved it down. either way, she showed up with a mask.

I think she would have been better off to use the ol’ “when I woke up, my hair was done” excuse.  She seems like a party girl, so it would definitely be more plausible in my opinion.  Maybe she could even blame Kavenaugh?

i don't think term limits should be imposed on being in congress, but maybe on being the speaker?
I agree, I don’t think someone third in line for president should get a lifetime appointment.
That doesn't make any sense to me.  Speaker is elected as an official and as Speaker.  There are plenty of opportunities to unseat him/her. Plus the Speaker can be removed any time during a congress if they lose confidence of the majority.  And if they became president,  they lose their seat and become subject to term limits.

but if she's speaker, her party has the majority. as we've seen, it's highly unlikely your own party would get rid of you, no?

Not sure I buy it. And really, how tough is it to wash and dry your own damn hair?
