  • No, no we don’t.
Interesting.  I just looked up the senate.  While it's clear there are those in there WAY TOO LONG, it's a smaller amount then I thought.

30% have been in over 20 years
    50% total > 15 years

I am for term limits...unsure exactly where I would cap it for the Senate.  Had thought 3 6-yr terms maybe?  Or fewer terms, longer years to reduce election nonsense.

If the elected representative in a district or state is doing a good enough job for them, why should they be jettisoned because someone in another state doesn’t like their politics? “Sorry, Cincy, you’ve been doing a great job for the company but we have a limit to how long you can be in your position, go clean out your desk.”

Term limits are lazy and stupid. You’d have a better result taking the obscene amounts of money required out of the equation.
I see your point, despite the quote feature being weird.

Why do we have term limits on president then?

I would say, as I think about it, perhaps only for Senators who are much more powerful on the national level and far less linked to their constituents.
Originally there wasn’t a term limit for POTUS and an amendment was passed after Roosevelt’s death during his 4th term. I don’t know the history behind the amendment drive and eventual passage. Might have been motivated by his attempt to stack the Supreme Court with 4 more justices? Dunno.

Congress is a complicated place to pass legislation and designed by the founders as such. It takes at least two years to figure it out and much more to ultimately become effective. Why should Congress be run by a constant bunch of amateurs?

I am definitely for term limits.  Imagine if Moscow Mitch was gone.  We probably would not be starring down the barrel of a one-party system right now.  Parties would have to consistently re-invent themselves (at least at the state level).  Politicians would not really be able to focus on keeping their cushy situation for the rest of their lives.

i don't think term limits should be imposed on being in congress, but maybe on being the speaker?

I agree, I don’t think someone third in line for president should get a lifetime appointment.

    It was a “setup.”

So I guess we’re supposed to believe that the business owner instructed Madame Speaker that she could only get her (also noncompliant) indoor haircut if she showed up to the salon without a mask.

Pelosi wants an apology from the salon owner.

“Tambourines and elephants are playin’ in the band.”
The owner who “set her up” is now receiving death threats.
Ridiculous. And I honestly don’t get the whole setup excuse.
    1) she tries to schedule an appointment with her at home hair stylist
    2) at home hair stylist isn't available. said hair stylist recommends her old salon.
    3) nancy contacts salon, they say "sure, come on down, we're allowed one person indoors"
    4) she wears a mask, apparently pulling it down briefly when walking from one room to the next (not verifiable that she wore it the rest of the time)
    5) salon owner claims she was upset that nancy was allowed and no one else was. um, take responsibility for your establishment.
    6) apparently the new "outdoor" rule came into effect that same day (correct me if I'm wrong)
    7) salon owner was so upset at her own inability to run her own business properly, she sent secret footage to fox news.

a setup is certainly plausible in my mind.

look at the footage. she had a mask. it was down around her neck. she claims that was the only point she moved it down. either way, she showed up with a mask.

I think she would have been better off to use the ol’ “when I woke up, my hair was done” excuse.  She seems like a party girl, so it would definitely be more plausible in my opinion.  Maybe she could even blame Kavenaugh?

That doesn't make any sense to me.  Speaker is elected as an official and as Speaker.  There are plenty of opportunities to unseat him/her. Plus the Speaker can be removed any time during a congress if they lose confidence of the majority.  And if they became president,  they lose their seat and become subject to term limits.

but if she's speaker, her party has the majority. as we've seen, it's highly unlikely your own party would get rid of you, no?

  • From what I understand, the salon owner leases the chairs to anyone who needs a place to cut/style hair and that Nabbling Nabob Nancy brought her own hair stylist to use the salon, something the salon owner had been allowing since April. If I were an elected official, I'd put my own stylist/barber shop chair and sink in my house. People put dog washing rooms in their houses now for jiminy crinkets. Too funny the deplorables are all up in arms and yet Sturgis barely gets a mention. Oh the humanity, as someone said.

Answering for the Speaker of the House: No.
    Damnit Nancy!  Why!?!?

    You left off #8:

    8. You're Speaker of The House, know the regulations and abide by them.
i agree. she fucked up. it's just amazing, though, the shit the right gets their feathers ruffled over. trump can obstruct justice and cozy up to dictators. no fucking problem. pelosi gets her hair done inside. HOLY FUCKING HELL THE LEFT IS FULL OF HYPOCRITES.
I have no feathers. And I don’t generalize.

yeah, i think the whole "setup" response is quite strange. i disagree with the hypocrisy. i don't think she intended to "do as i say, not as i do", but i do agree with the deflection part of it. she could have easily said "yes, I am human, and I made a mistake; i still urge you all to wear your masks and be aware of the changing landscape of this pandemic, and i will do my best to do the same".
    Darwinspeed, all.

    Yes
I’m kind of sorry that I brought this up now. Although I’m sure someone else probably would have.

    It’s a new day, folks.

You guys really harp on things for a while, don’t you?

In the end, most of us will come to a conclusion that fits our own personal perception of the Speaker.

None of us were there. And I’m not taking the word of Fox News, Nancy Pelosi, her hairstylist, or a jaded small business owner as anything even approaching the truth.

Bigger fish to fry. This, to me, reaches the level of mildly amusing tidbit. If it reaches any further for anyone, in my opinion, that person’s priorities are all kinds of fucked up.

The clip I saw, and I don't recall where I saw it or what network it was, she apologized for not wearing her mask as she transited rooms, took responsibility for it and apologized but also spoke about how her stylist made the appointment at the salon who claimed the salon said they could do it, one customer at a time, etc. She should have known better, blah, blah, blah. The WaPo is reporting that the salon owner won't comment for their reporting. Weak. You throw a bomb and don't want to talk about it after? Non-story, except for deplorables, who view it as more malfeasance of the Deep State. Meanwhile, Team Trump Treason is constantly seen without a mask and toured a medical mask manufacturing facility without wearing one. Anyone remember the outrage? Sure you do.

If it reaches any further for anyone, in my opinion, that person’s priorities are all kinds of fucked up.
politics is always about the minutiae, for better or worse.

not sure the point of shaming people for talking about a topic that is in the news, especially when it's relevant to the thread. but ok.
    Darwinspeed, all.

    Cheers,

Not shaming. Just pointing out differences between some folks here and myself.

And I'm far from an exemplary human being.

Edit: I even made sure to include what should be the unnecessary "to me" and "in my opinion."

And my opinion should matter to you about as much as yours matters to me -- that is, not at all.

That hurts, your opinion means the world to me.

That's why I should never put myself out there.

I see now that I forgot a smiley thingy. Perhaps that would have helped to soften my tone.
