A vaccine is not going to rid us of this problem being that so many will refuse to get vaccinated.  I don't see how a vaccine is the silver bullet in this case.
So here's a hypothetical.. Let's assume Fauci and Birx are sidelined or fired (likely at this point) and the Trump administration announces they have a vaccine and it's ready to go.  Do you trust them?
Absolutely fucking not. How can you trust anything Team Trump Treason spews forth? He's told over 20,000 lies and/or misleading statements since being inaugurated. I'll wait for Sleepy Woke Joe to make the announcement or the efficacy to be reported by reputable sources.

Piggybacking on what oftenreading said, it's highly unlikely that this is how things go down. These vaccines are being developed by private companies and will have to undergo regulatory scrutiny. No one should get a vaccine, take a medication, etc. without knowing how effective or safe it is. That sort of information is available for what's on the market today.

But most of those that refuse to get vaccinated will be willing to go to games, concerts, work, etc.  So it'll be part "herd immunity" and part vaccine. Certain jobs (medical, of course) will probably have requirements (I assume that's legal and done with measles, etc.). It would be ideal if everyone who can get vaccinated would and hopefully it will be roughly as effective as the vaccinations most of us use today.

I'm not sure that relying on herd immunity is a viable option either at this point, being that studies continue to show that antibody levels decrease rapidly after infection.  As a layman, it seems to me that this virus will continue to circulate even after a vaccine is available.

Herd immunity is not a solution from what I can tell and I partly said it tongue-in-cheek.  I just hope that the anti-vaxxers don't lead to the rest of us (or people that have legit medical reasons to not be able to take it) being in danger.  The anti-vax movement is pretty strong and pre-dates Trump.  It's not going anywhere any time soon.

Taiwan also kicked ass, partly due to a "medical card" that allowed near real time access to health care treatment data for their National Health Authority, which allowed them to make fact based decisions on how to respond once it became clear that there might be a pandemic in the making. Something the Clinton Healthcare Plan included when it was introduced in 1993. Imagine that?

One would assume it is easier to control 4.8 million people compared to 326.7 million people who already can't agree on anything...just slightly though.

This was early June. They now have about 25 cases.

Maybe check dates before posting something as current news.

What is it like in Virginia? The only news I have read from you guys is monuments coming down.
In my county (metro Richmond) we had our biggest one week spike in a long time last week.  But it went from 4 to 59, so not massive.  Back down this past week.  The state is not doing great, but it's okay.  We have big metro areas with lots of travelers, so you have to expect that we'll be along for the ride with the rest of the country, especially because it's beach season and everyone comes through or stays in VA.

I do feel good that mask adherence is up even from a few weeks ago.  Last time I commented on it, probably a month ago, I would say in the suburban/urban areas, adherence was about 75%.  Now it's definitely in the 90's.  Very few people are in public areas without them.

Northern Virginia sees ebb in virus cases while numbers reach record highs elsewhere in state

The beaches are a problem. So are two places in the state where we have meat-packing plants. I can also report that NoVa rush hour traffic is back to pre-pandemic levels, so I don't think we'll be "ebbing" for long.

I live 10 minutes from the Perdue Chicken plant that's on the 33 in Hanover county.  I live in the northern tip of Henrico.  I haven't heard of any outbreak up there and Hanover is definitely has a lower ratio than us.  But I'm sure plenty of those workers live in Henrico, Goochland, etc.  The spike in Hampton Roads makes perfect sense.  The beaches are BAU, although I'm sure the bars are closed and restaurants are spaced, but still you have people traveling in from all over the country.

It's the Perdue and Tyson factory farms on the Eastern Shore.
Ah.. Yeah this is some sort of processing plant, but it's relatively small compared to some that I've seen before.  Never see more than 40 or 50 cars in the parking lot it seems.
