Not cool. There was a finite amount of money available. They literally took money from a business that needed it. It’s a disease and they’re all green.
Not to pick on you, but that’s just not true. There are still PPP funds available and are being left unclaimed as of now. I’m sure PJ did it to pay their crew something rather than nothing.

Pearl Jam is a business. Businesses have employees. Employees have salaries and hopefully benefits. This wasn’t taken so Boom could buy a couple pounds of Maui Wowie, it was to cover the costs of said employees. Whatever it takes. If it goes to the people effected or affected (I always forget what’s right) then good on them.
    Peace,Love and Pearl Jam.

I have no issue with this.  They didn’t fuck their employees.  The 5 band members lost lots of money and made sure their employees were paid.  I’m a partner  with a law firm and we did the same
They had ways to generate income. Deftones , NIN , to name a few sold merch from canceled gigs to pay their crew. PJ could have easily did that. To me it’s not a good look. Just my opinion. Replace the name “Pearl Jam” with some other business with equal revenue and it would be a travesty to some people here.
So the band borrowed money to pay their crew for a tour that didn't happen.  They'll then pay their crew when that tour does happen, plus they'll have to pay back the loan.  Which means they're taking a decent pay cut whenever that tour happens.   Since the borrowed the money (and have to pay it back) they're essentially paying their staff out of their own pockets.

That seems pretty honourable to me?

There is a loan forgiveness component if they meet certain requirements.

We have a program where our government will subsidize 75% of a persons wages if the employer keeps them employed.

    Is that available to Staind?

It's a loan, not a grant.  They will be paying their employees now with that money, then will be paying it back when (hopefully) the tours start back up.  I have no problem with this.

I DO have a problem with companies that use this money, and then fire or layoff people.

Curious if the crew was paid by the band in 2019 when there was no tour?
Why would they be? I imagine the roadies and crew have other jobs or other bands that they work for when PJ isn't touring.

No. They don't have to pay it back if they meet the guidelines of how they use the funds, its a forgivable loan.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Ah, thats correct.   They will have to pay it back if (for some reason) they dont use it for the intended purpose, I think.

Either way, I am ok with this.  Its going to the crew.

You think in 1995 Ed would have had an opinion on federal payroll loans during a global pandemic?

The money was for small business, Pearl Jam is a small business with employees. What should they have done?
