The 2020 Spring Tour Leg One Postponement Positivity Thread

alright, we're pissed. we're upset. i'm with you. i don't travel for bands often. especially not flying. but i finally had my wife on board with this one, going to ottawa. then found out later a friend of mine and his wife were attending the same show. and a guy from these boards was going to meet up. it was all set. it was amazing.

then coronavirus happened. politics aside (take it to AMT if you want to discuss that), the band decided to postpone the tour. i was SO. DISAPPOINTED. i am known as the pearl jam guy to pretty much everyone i've met since 1991. my 10 year old cried for me. seriously. she gets it.

let's turn lemons into lemonade. let's figure out a way to turn this into a POSITIVE POSITIVE.

i texted my buddy and we are thinking of just having a pearl jam night on the night of the show here in winnipeg in lieu of being in ottawa. let's use this thread to tell each other what we're all going to do on the night of the show we were supposed to be going to. and just extending good will towards our fellow pearl jam wo/men.

and i'll start it off. i have an extra 2006 fan club single to give away. tell me your postponed-show plans, and i'll do a draw in the next few days for the winner.
Darwinspeed, all.

Cheers,

HFD

Tickets to 4 shows on this now cancelled leg. Out the cost of 2 sets of NHL tickets at 2 different rinks (and it seems like the cost of RT tix to Toronto). Sad and disappointed, but I can understand where they are coming from with this.

Positive positive: I start a new job the week that I was supposed to leave for Nashville and St. Louis which put me in an awkward position - so now I'll be home and able to save the vacation time I would have used for that trip to spend later in the year. And I have a new job on a better shift that allows me to spend more time with my husband (rather than work on opposite shifts). And I get another weekend to hang with my goddaughters (rather than fly to Baltimore and back in 18 hours). I'll still try and watch the Leafs and Preds games we were supposed to go to (and make fried chicken the night of the cancelled Nashville show). Maybe it'll be nice enough to smoke up some ribs for the night of the St. Louis show.

    Fenway 2 09/18
PJ songs at our wedding: Love Reign O'er Me (1st dance); Sirens (last dance); Long Road (Momma-Son dance).
  • I know that the wait will be worth it when I finally do get to see them back here in LA

My plans are, the days of the shows that got postponed I will bust out some scotch and put on the fan made videos of the 2013 LA shows and rock out!

Positive: they'll reschedule... we'll have fun. I'm not losing any $ cause SW banks funds for future use,  hotels refundable.
I don't have a job so now I get to temporarily keep the $ I was going ro spend on trips ... and keep looking fir a job

Hope people can respect this thread. I think this was the right move, even if the virus doesn’t end up being a big problem the risk is unknown and it shows that the band has their priorities straight. My wife is pregnant with our second child and I had already made up my mind there was no risking the health of my family over more concerts. I’ll be listening to Gigaton on 4/6 & 4/9 with the people that will always come before this band.

I manage a team in China (and have a few coworkers in Wuhan) and to say the least the things happening here are nowhere near what they have to put up with, so any bitching on my part is the inconvenience of excessive planning that has been reset. Still been a great few months of hype, singles leading to a new album, the Dolby experience in a few weeks, still have a ticket to MSG to hold onto, and we know they'll be touring in due time. Now only if I can rearrange all travel refunds into an Ohana trip...

I'm bummed, but not pissed.  It's a shitty thing happened.  Hard to be angry about it.

I think I'm off lighter than most.  Hotel was cancellable.  My buddy has to cancel an $11 ferry reservation.  I booked a hotel that was cancellable.  The only lingering costs might be might flight back.  I used Alaska Air points.  They're current waiving the 125 cancellation fee for flights up to march 31st.  I hope there extending that.

I got an email from Westjet saying the same thing.   It's awesome they are doing this, but do they really think this ends in 3 weeks.     I think it's going to go around for a while :(

No matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead. It's a few concerts postponed. What the world is facing is gonna affect a lot of people directly or indirectly.  We have to be ruthless.  In the grand scheme of things it actually doesn't really matter.  I full expect my 2 trips for euro tour to be postponed

i wish i wish i wish i wish, i guess it never stops

Definitely looking forward to the album. I was planning on driving from NH to the Ottawa and QBC shows. On Friday, my company announced that anyone traveling internationally would have to work from home for two weeks upon their return to the States. My role is such that I could do this but it would have caused a lot of headaches. I checked with HR yesterday and they confirmed that even though Ontario and Quebec are low risk, the policy applies. So, cancelling the shows means I don't have to make the tough decision of whether or not to go and mess up things at work. That's my silver lining.

I’ll be spending more quality time with my friend in Baltimore instead of F5ing for last minute tix/upgrades. Plus maybe when the tickets go on resale I can actually score three together!

Huge bummer, but they will reschedule.  Everything is gonna be fine.

*I do feel quite badly for those that don't have refundable travel. And those that inevitably won't be able tot make the rescheduled dates*

Some of the original dates coincided with a busy time at work, so this will allow me more time to focus on that.

Not losing much in travel costs, just one nonrefundable hotwire room. Anyone have any luck getting a refund / credit from them?

On a positive note, I can probably attend the rescheduled Ottawa show now!  I was very happy that Delta allowed flight changes - I swapped my St. Louis flight for an Ohana flight.

I booked my flight to Ottawa through Expedia and am (so far) seeing it is non-refundable.  I am debating on going anyway.

This is the worst part, those that can’t go to the rescheduled dates. I totally understand doing this but, QC woulda been my first time seeing the band & now it’s questionable if I will be able to go to the rescheduled date so who knows if I will ever see them.

I too got away pretty easy on this one. I Live only 20 mins from the Ottawa show so I lost nothing on travel or accommodations. Ill probably take a refund when the time comes and Ticketmaster reaches out with the options.

moving forward I have a David Crosby show to look forward too. Its in Mid June so I hope it does not get cancelled.

My wife made plans to meet with a client in Denver on the day of the show. That way her company would pay for her flight and our hotel. Now with the cancellation, she’ll be going on a business trip and I’ll be staying home with the kids.

Positive: After I get the kids to bed, I’ll chill in the living room with a beverage of choice, and put on Gigaton. That sounds like a lovely evening to me!

Had tickets to msg and Baltimore. I live in NYC so no financial losses there. Have a fully refundable hotel in Baltimore and Amtrak is pretty good with their cancellation policy. While I am bummed about the postponements, my positive is that I have met some amazing people on the Fan to Fan thread and look forward to meeting them when the shows are rescheduled.

Pretty much same here except I didn’t even have amtrack. Already cancelled the hotel and should receive my refund soon. So I guess I should consider myself lucky. Oh yea I also don’t have Coronavirus yet
