I haven’t played guitar since I emigrated to Australia a little over 10 years ago. I sold a couple to help raise cash for the move and haven’t bought a new one since.

However, we were visiting my family in Wales in December and my 5 year old son was digging through some boxes that I’d packed up but never shipped. Inside one was my first guitar, the only one I still have. It’s a crappy old Hohner that I was given for my birthday 30+ years ago. It’s certainly seen better days but I love it. It’s hard to describe, but it just feels nice. The neck is a perfect shape, and it has a nice warm sound, although it is a little quiet.

(Apologies in advance for lowering the tone after so many beautiful photos in this thread!  =) )

I guess the point is that, after uncovering my old guitar and then finding this thread for the first time, maybe it’s time to pick one up and start again.
    That's awesome, man!!!

I put a new pickguard, new roasted maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard, locking tuners, tusq nut, string saver saddles, black knobs, string trees, and Klein 1959 pickups in my 1996 strat this week. This was my first guitar. She is playing better than ever after this overhaul.

I assume the pick guard is anodized aluminum. Have you noticed any difference in noise or hum through your amp since you changed it?

Well, the old pickups were lace sensor noiseless except the bridge was a duncan so the fact I went for a more vintage sound with the Klein 1959's means there is more naturally occuring feedback/hum anyways but I don't think the pickguard made a big sonic difference really.

I realized why I haven't itched to buy a new guitar in 8 years.  It is because I wasn't playing very much.  Now stuck at home I'm playing more and want to get an acoustic that sounds great fingerpicking.

It seems like it will be awhile until we can go to a store and try out guitars.  I don't like to order guitars on the web.

2014 J45 and a 2012ish Frankentele with roasted maple neck, reverse control plate, and a p90 neck with a Gibson wiring mod so the neck p90 gets the full power of the 500k pots and the bridge gets 250 like a normal tele. Now I just need a LP Special and a Collings D1 and maybe a Victoria 20112 or Tungsten Cortez.

@mcgruff10   I'll let him answer the question about the Marshall, but a similar sized, and likely similar price point amp that I bought and really like is the Boss Katana.  I think it ran me $220 on sale.  I actually tried it alongside a similar Marshall (maybe the same) and went the Katana route.  Some decent stuff on youtube to listen to them side by side since your probably not strolling over to a guitar store anytime soon.

Good call! Lots of great options for smaller amps these days. Costs have come way down as low wattage amps occupy an increasingly large market segment.

Competition between companies is good for our ears and wallets.

@mcgruff10  J45s are the best! Truth be told I did put a few filters on the photo to make it pop, not that it didn’t look great to begin with.

I did a live stream from the basement on Monday & played these 3 instruments...

It was a lot of fun. I alternated between covers & originals.

Thanks! It plays really nicely. I had my eye on it for years & finally pulled the trigger about 4 years ago.
