Seeing Danny Carey do anything percussion wise is a treat, & what he did with the giant gong this fall was cool as shit.mickeyrat said:Lerxst1992 said:mickeyrat said:

Yup for mine he's the best drummer in the world, seeing him go apeshit is a special treat. Mind you most of his parts in Tool songs are absolutely insane. Rosetta Stoned...wow. Of course I'd rather see Tool play a shorter song instead of a drum solo, but he is so good that I'd never be disappointed to see CC trip in whatever form he chooses to display it.Stars are suns to other people.

Hearing a rumor about Tool headlining Bonnaroo next year.
If true, we can probably expect more US dates before and / or after, maybe May - June, or June - July?
I hope it's arenas again. If they swing through the Northeast, I'll take what I can get, but I really don't want to go back to the local shed.

One of the things I always enjoyed about seeing Rush live was how Neil Peart would have a drum solo every tour. And each tour it would be a bigger solo than the last. Sometimes you just have to marvel in the greatness of a damn fine percussionist, as is the case with Neil and Danny!JT167846 said:Yup for mine he's the best drummer in the world, seeing him go apeshit is a special treat. Peart has a much more varied style and setup and incorporates tracks to make it an actual song. Much more entertaining than someone like DC who has totally maximized a relatively limited when it comes to what he chooses to play.HesCalledDyer said:

I've seen Rush 4 or 5 times and Tool a dozen or more. The drum solos are neat but not a high point of either set for me. I would always prefer an extra song or two instead.0

At a Tool show, I would agree because their setlists are so short. But Rush played 30 songs for 3 hours a night. The drum solo never took anything away from the rest of the set.pjl44 said:I've seen Rush 4 or 5 times and Tool a dozen or more. The drum solos are neat but not a high point of either set for me. Of course if I had my preference, I would prefer to hear a Tool song over a Danny Carey drum solo. With that being said however, you'll never hear me complain about sitting through a Danny Carey Drum solo.

I'm probably in the minority on this one (especially with these two bands), but drum solos are just not my jamHesCalledDyer said:

Yeah I get it. No worries, I'm in the overall minority (or majority, whatever way it falls) with you. There are few I can make an exception for, Neil is one.pjl44 said:Merkin Baller said:pjl44 said:I've seen Rush 4 or 5 times and Tool a dozen or more. Meh... it's music, it's subjective. To each his own.

The only good drum solo I've seen live was the Allman Brothers.0

Still a bit taken aback from ol' Dewie referring to Danny as limited. We must be listening to different drummers. Could be a well thought out troll though, some Tool fans can be rather precious.Stars are suns to other people.

Not ability wise but style wise, relative to Neil Peart and some other well rounded rock drummers.JT167846 said:Still a bit taken aback from ol' Dewie referring to Danny as limited. I am having this discussion w a drummer pal of mine. He says Danny is good but not the best.DewieCox said:

I ask him if he hears the same things that I do, lol?
This is also from a guy that ranks Alex VanHalen as an elite drummer...0 -
As far as his drumming coordination and the difficulty of what he is able to pull off, there is no one better. I just meant it as more of a listening experience.tempo_n_groove said:
