    I like Nirvana's music a bit better than Foo Fighters, but Foo Fighters have so many albums, that even at a few decent songs per album, it's now added up to a lot of decent songs.

    I will say I think Dave Grohl earned it.  People seem to think he had overnight success with the Foo Fighters.  I think that first tour was bars, the 2nd tour was still small venues. I saw them in support of the colour and the shape in '97, and they played the University of BC student rec centre which held about 1200 people.   I saw them the next summer again at Edgefest and they had an afternoon slot before green day and a bunch of Canadian rock bands.    Even in the 2000 I saw them supporting RHCP.     While his notiarity maybe got him  some fans in the beginning, I think it was the relentless touring and releasing of albums that built the Foo's legacy.    I don't feel it's fair to say it was from Nirvana...  It helped him his foot in the door, but it was a career he had to start over and spend years building to being an arena/stadium headliner.

    I've read a number of books with commentary from music journalists and musicans and they all say it was the biggest phenomenon since Beatlemania. How do you know they were sheep, they were excited that there was something better than that shit hair metal that was big at the time.

    Had Nirvana not paved the way I’m sure someone else would have. 
    I have never been a big fan. Liked a few songs but I just don’t see myself listening to nevermind when I’m sitting at home and 60 years old. 
    I don’t believe it is timeless music. Therefore my vote is for a bit overrated.

    I am a soundgarden fan, yes. And I can see your point about Ten and superunknown. I’d like to believe those albums are a little more “mature” than Nevermind. Who knows, maybe, maybe not. Time will tell I guess.
    i know that if I’m alive at 60 ill still be listing to the Beatles, Stones etc ... as they are completely timeless.
    Black Crowes, Phish and some other 90’s bands I know I’ll forever cherish.
