I was between jobs when TOTD came through LA.  I scored floor tix and had to sell them to survive the LA hustle....I really regret not going........

Currently caught in a mind riot :(
  • I can't believe its already been two years.. I got to see him live with every band he was in but, especially loved his solo shows. I take my camera to every show that I go to, you could say photography is a bit of a hobby... I took this one of Chris at the Moore Theater on 5/22/11. Its one of my personal favorites.... Never listened to Higher Truth before.  This thing is phenomenal. Murderer of Blue Skies and Through the Window are excellent.

It's a damn file album.  I have a big soft spot for the Live in Sweden bootleg that ultimately inspired the songbook tour/album.   That bootleg is one of my most favorite things ever.  I would love to see it get an official release.

It certainly is. It is sad that this is a bookend to his solo career. When you look back his first solo album was arguably his darkest work and his last solo album was possibly his most hopeful. Kind of ironic in a way.
My favourite on Higher Truth would probably be Bend in the Road!

It is a damn fine record. And to think the amount of songs that potentially got left on the cutting room floor..Wooden Jesus, When I'm Down, Say Hello to Heaven, Seasons, Sunshower, etc.
Hopefully in time we can hear some more soundboard versions from his solo tour. They are out there, just depends on what the Estate wants to do.

After his passing, I listened to it all for the first time and wish I would have long before. It is a great album. I put that thing on almost every day for a few weeks. Some of his best work.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Had some somber moments the other day when Wide Awake by Audioslave showed up on my shuffled playlist. One of my favorite songs and his lyrics and delivery on that song are great.

I saw some footage the other day from a show at the House of Blues, that I think was from the Scream tour, the whole band had loads of energy and really looked like they were enjoying themselves. This period was a blank for me, I remember Audioslave breaking up and then reformation of Soundgarden but nothing about the years inbetween. An official release of live material from these years would be fantastic, in my opinion.

I can understand the position of all the parties involved.  From the band perspective, this was a business with four owners.  Three of the four business owners are still here and they want to finish the project they started.   They also want to honor Chris and his legacy at the same.    By using "business" i'm not implying that they are in it for the money, but moreso that they were a group with a goal, and there is still a group and a goal to finish.

Chris's family though wants to protect his legacy and whether Chris would want music issued that he wasn't finished with.  Do they want to go through the emotions of a new album with their late husband/dad singing on it.

    Not an easy call.

...you do what Chris would have wanted. I think its an easy call if your being honest about it.

So who makes that call?  His bandmates of 30 years or family?

His family should make the right call, IMO.

In related news, my wife played me the hip hop song that Lily (Cornell) Silver appears on.  She really has a great voice.  Cool to see her out there having fun.

She and Susan Silver are awesome, classy folks.
