The chorus in Bushleaguer is sadly wasted

Bushleaguer has such a great chorus. And with the song being so topical and W Bush-centric and "never" will be in rotation in again (once in a blue moon) it's a bit sad. It's a great chorus, a great chorus to be played live etc.

Blackout weaves its way through the city
Blackout weaves its way through the city
Blackout weaves its way...
I remember when you sang that song about today
Now it's tomorrow and everything has changed

Just sad they didn't update the lyrics to work with "any" shitty President, or keep playing it for the general message of it.

Just a bid sad.

I have faced it, a chorus wasted.

    I'm never going back again.

I escaped it, a chorus wasted.

    I'm never going back again.

    Having tasted, a chorus wasted.

    I'm never going back again.

So you're saying you believe  Pearl Jam will bring it back to sing about the president of Finland, or the prime minister of Iceland?

    Or what is your point?

    I honestly don't understand.

They wrote the song about W Bush - an american president they despised - and stopped playing it in 2007 when he was out.

What has it to do with leaders around the world? I don't think anyone would complain if they rewrote it to fit whoever, as long as the chorus is intact. I doubt Eddie would ever rework it to fit a foreign leader though. No matter how shitty.

"HELLO BOSTON -- this is a song about how swedish social democratic leader Stefan Löfven is selling out his parties ideals and history to screw over working class people - this is Stefanleguer!"

I'd say the best part is the instrumentation in the verses.
The first thing I noticed the first time I listened to it was how close the cadence and chord progression are to "The Man Who Sold the World." I've always wondered if that was intentional. It would've been fitting, for sure.

Bushleaguer has such a great chorus. And with the song being so topical and W Bush-centric and "never" will be in rotation in again (once in a blue moon) it's a bit sad. It's a great chorus, a great chorus to be played live etc.

I agree. I really like this song a lot, mainly because of this great chorus, but you're right... it's wasted because it will never get played. That's a shame. I also agree with those who say it should still get played. I mean, why not?? We still remember Bush Jr just fine.

To this day when I hear that chorus I imagine the blackouts in California :
    • California electricity crisis, blackouts affecting California in 2000 and 2001, due to an energy shortage caused by market manipulation
or the blackouts in Baghdad during the invasion.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Stone said Ed had a fantastic vocal melody for this song that was recorded but scrapped because Ed wanted the spoken word more. Would love to hear this.

Always loved Bu$hleaguer, especially the music and chorus. Good song that doesn't need to be shelved. You can attach any last name and reference some prick screwing over people. It's like a more direct follow-up to Soon Forget.
    It's a hopeless situation...

So, who here has gotten to see Bushleager live? Anything particularly interesting happen?
I was able to see it once in 2003 at night one in Detroit. Eddie made a comment about it not being a “rebel song” at the beginning.

Bad song. Just so heavy handed. I do kinda dig the second, sorta atmospheric guitar and the acoustic break between verses.
