Who are you talking to here?
    No idea...

"Americans" nor Bettman are taking fighting out of hockey.   In fact, id argue that bettman has preserved it the best he can.  (Although they put in the instigator and 2 refs to crack down a bit early to clean up the game from the 70s to early 90s).  Actually, david branch and the ohl was at the forefront of creating the most strict anti-fighting rules in recent years.

The problem is a few things.  Instead of players who were like 6 feet tall duking it out, starting around 2000, we got players 6-4 and like 230 throwing devastating punches.  Nobody else could withstand these guys, each team would typically have 1, and their fights felt just forced and were often just grapple matches.

Then you have the cte issue and the ex-fighters killing themselves, along with all the litigation the nhl is facing.  How could the nhl defend itself, while openly permitting bare knuckle boxing.  This is where i feel gary bettman has sat on the fence and done 'just enough' to make it look like good faith efforts.  The nhl could have banned fighting and made it a game misconduct (and supplementary discipline for repeat offenders) long ago, and nobody would have batted an eye.

Then, you have the money these players make, everyones a millionaire, the speed that is required to play, and how players co-mingle in and out of teams and teammates.  These guys just dont want to fight and risk a good thing.  Plus the above mentioned cte scare.  You hear interviews with ex-fighters, and many of them would dread doing the deed and hated it, and couldnt eat and sleep anticipating a game, but knew they needed to.

    Except Rocky fought fairly.

And the NHL will not have the balls to suspend the piece of shit simply because he's a star player.
Let me recap for you sissy Americans...2 guys dropped their gloves, 2 guys threw punches, one guy was clearly overmatched and got smacked on the way down...hardly the first time 2 combatants have continued punching once going down...You must enjoy Bettman's pussification of the league.  That was a great fight, no matter what the sissy announcer said at the end...
As a Canadian, I'm surprised you forgot to apologize to us before this stream of insults.
some people think they are tough because they like to watch fighting.

fighting in sports is just so ludicrous. and so juvenile.
    Darwinspeed, all.

    Cheers,

Tampa may need to look for a new head coach...that was a terrible series for them.  After the 1st period of game 1 it really went Columbus's way.  Congrats to Columbus and their 1 or 2 fans here...

    Shittsburgh is gone as well...

Hell yeah it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this good about the islanders they really played solid hockey, I’m hoping the Caps series goes seven games and someone knocks the shit out of Ovechkin

They Islanders looked really good in all facets, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they accomplish in this run.

I just checked and you are right he just signed an extension.  Not much more they can do but get at it again in October.  But that sure sucks, what a great season they had.

    Four years...
But yeah, something needs to change.  Perhaps they have too much skill and not enough grinding.  Maybe they don't need the type of production they get from their 3rd and 4th lines, but rather need to beef it up.
The loss of Hedman and Stralman really hurt though.  Hedman is clearly their best D and I think Stralman is probably the second best.  Their inability to handle the forecheck and clear the zone was a killer, while giving up 5 PPG.  Not having your best two blueliners is a setback.

It's one thing to win the President's Trophy with 128 points and the 2nd highest win PCT in NHL history & tied for most wins in NHL history and not win the cup or even make the finals, its a whole other level of embarrassing to lose in the first round...but to get swept in the first round...that really takes the cake. Wow.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Bye bye Penguins!  One pick right on my bracket so far.  Absolutely crazy about Tampa.  I didn't have them going all the way but I did have them in the ECF.

    Go Leafs Go!
Truly believe this series is going 7. If the Leafs can beat Boston this round and with Tampa now out. The 2nd round would have the Leafs playing the Islanders. Couldn't have asked for a better story line in playoffs.
Its anybody's cup now that Tampa is gone.

I did not realize Hedman was out.  That's a big blow.  It would have been the equivalent of Detroit not having Lidstrom.  In today's NHL you need production from the 3rd and 4th lines...so yes adding toughness goes a long way, I still think those grinders have to be capable of scoring and being responsible.  I'd probably give it a go with said lineup 1 more year.  Detroit in the early '90s had trouble getting over the hump, I think it was when they added Shanahan that got them over the hump a bit.  Tampa should be able to compete for a while.

someone needs to step in and nix the Barclays playoff games and keep them in Nassau, a team this hot, with a great crowd behind them could make magic.....Barclays diminished their chances
