    Get that wall built Canada

  • Canada number 1? Wow.

Kinda cool I guess, but we have many things we really need to improve upon.

    National Health Service

It the UK's health system.  I have sympathy for people who are overweight.  It's becoming a problem in Canada as well.  We are leading a more sedentary lifestyle than ever before...
Sedentary is part of it for sure, but diet is major.  Way to much sugar, especially corn syrup*, way too much bread, way to much grease, and way to much meat from animals injected with hormones, thus the advent of the 7 foot Chinese basketball player  (growth hormones finding their way through the food chain).

    * Here's how f'd up corn syrup is:

I can not argue with any of that.  If you get a chance google Canada's new food guide, let me know what you think.  I think you might like it.
    I like it.  Very sensible!

It would seem if your country places anywhere in the top 17, then that's not too shabby.  All countries can improve.  I would never place Canada above Switzerland or Norway...

But I never place in value in a list like this, visit our first nation reserves, downtowns of larges cities, small-town Ontario where people struggle daily...

The problem with the World Index is that it doesn't take into account that there really are no countries, there are only bio-regions, and all of the bio-regions are interrelated as a part of the whole, planet Earth.  On a list of our cosmological local planets, planet Earth ranks #1 as best planet to live on.  Yet we trash it and drive it to becoming inhospitable to human life.  We are a very strange species.

I am in no way knocking Canada.  I know I live in a good country.  I know you may not believe it right now, but you live in a good country as well.  All Countries can improve, just as people can improve... these lists really mean nothing to me though.  I pointed out a couple of problems that need addressing, also these problems can sometimes only been seen from the inside of our borders.  Other than France and Japan, I could live in the rest of the top 17, easily...but my preference is Switzerland, then Norway.  Sorry SC, Maybe Sweden 3.

An interesting libertarianopolis it is, but not what one would normally call a country. And not seen around these parts lately.

Why isn't the US on top of the "least corrupt countries list" ? I thought it was THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD ?

Corruption is the driving force for what some see as greatness.  I think this can be said to be true for all empires throughout history.  I can't even remotely think of an empire in any period of history that wasn't driven by (and eventually brought down by) corruption.

Yes, this tells us that ALL countries have things that need improvement. No such thing as a perfect country obviously, and there is always room for improvement. It also tells me that a lot of Canadians need to get a grip and consider their lives in more relative terms, rather than expecting utopia and for everything to work exactly as they personally want it to, and then feeling angry when their expectations aren't reality. I think it's better to appreciate things in relative terms, while at the same time always thinking about how things could be even better.

I'm actually surprised that the USA is this high on the list TBH. But good for it? It makes me sad that the world is so fucking corrupt.

Is it Swedish?  Where I live in Southern Ontario, Heinze ketchup used to be made in this area, then a company owned by Warren Buffett bought Heinze and proceeded to close the plant, the plant was saved by a Businessman from Toronto.  But French's stepped in and filled the void vacated by the Heinze closure and they buy Southern Ontario tomato products for there ketchup.
