As an avid history nut.... I've always wondered how the German people could so easily fall in line with the Nazi Party... Now I've lived long enough to see exactly how... now that 38% of Americans have completely given up their logical thinking....it's a little easier to understand now.

Unfortunately fear mongering and blaming others still works today...
There's a controversial book called "Hitler's Willing Executioners" written by Harvard historian Daniel Goldhagen.  It explores the role of ordinary Germans and German culture and how, according to this thesis, the rise of the Nazis was the fault of the entire population, not just the leaders of the party.  The prevailing thought at the time is that the ordinary Germans and soldiers were victims of group think, peer pressure, etc., and this book attacked that premise.
Many historians attacked the book for various reasons, but the rise of Trump is a great example where Goldhagen may have it right.  I think we can clearly see that he harnessed the power of racism and nativism, he didn't create it.
When I studied film, we read and analysed a book written about the german film of the 20s - the time between the two wars - and how you could see the german people's mentality and acceptance of Hitler through the produced film.

Obviously one could see it as film theoratical mumbo-jumbo. But it was quite interesting study film from that point of view.

See I don't see it as acceptance of Hitler, rather that he was a reflection of the populace.  Anti-Semitism was deeply embedded into the Germanic regions since the Middle Ages.

    Notice the difference?

Democrats: The deaths of the immigrant children are 'unacceptable, un-American and unconscionable'

Trump: "Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats".

    The spin: it’s absolutely pathetic.

What’s crazy is the fact that the body of work Trump has compiled is so immense... we forget what vile crap he spewed no shorter than a month ago.

It’s been an endless stream of utter garbage. And whenever he comes remotely close to saying something ‘normal’ in some situation... his loser followers jump on to forums to point out how he acted normally and question why haters aren’t praising him.

I mean... remember when his buck toothed yokels were praising him for not ruining a funeral?

"The Democrats" are not Elizabeth Warren.  Anyone can run if they choose.  Doesn't mean she'll make it to or through Iowa.

Chelsea and Elizabeths speeches at the 2015 convention were tied, imo, as 2 of the most uninspiring political speeches I have ever seen.

"This is the Democrats doubling down on losing" is not the same as "if they nominate her...".  So no, I didn't know what you meant.  I'm glad I understand now.  It's going to be a wide open, crowded field.  And people will rush to announce so that they grab a few extra days of attention.  That's what happened here.

Im starting to feel like the dems are just going to have to play it safe with Biden/Beto 2020.
As long as Biden takes the high road and runs a positive campaign I think thats a winning ticket. Possibly Julian Castro over Beto in VP slot.

    I personally favor Bernie/Castro 2020

I think Biden Beto is a smart play.  You could also do Biden/Harris.  But choosing Joe gives the best chance to take back PA, MI and WI.

Michelle is amazing but I don’t think we really need yet another family dynasty...though I suspect the US would go for it since we apparently want a king or queen

I think it would be funny if Michelle won the nomination and at her convention speech Bush walks out, hands her a mint, and then just walks back off the stage.

That would be hilarious.  I like seeing that relationship in action.  Good for them for remembering that we're all in this together. I think it speaks well to both of their characters.
