It may not even have happened in 2008. This one is driven by Brent crude oil dropping by 30%. It stems from a dispute between Opec and Russia. OPEC wanted to reduce supply due to the corona, and Russia refused. So the market sees a price war coming. No matter how you slice it, I don't see how at least one quarter, if not multiple quarters of economy contraction doesn't happen. And two quarters = recession. Remember that the market is a leading indicator, jobs are a lagging indicator. Trump will have some busy thumbs in the morning.

That sucks. Hopefully it's only a temp drop for you guys and not a long term issue. We have a few states here that produce low grade fossil fuels as well that will be shut down when the price per barrel of the sweet crude goes below 35-40. This will be a direct jobs impact.

if this coronavirus lasts into the fall this asshole and the republicans will try to postpone the election.
I know this is just an anti-Trump hypothetical, but politically-speaking, he'd be foolish to suggest that. I think that Trump's base would be more likely to "risk" going to the polls to vote for him than I think the democratic base would "risk" going to vote for Joe or Bernie.
