As an avid history nut.... I've always wondered how the German people could so easily fall in line with the Nazi Party... Now I've lived long enough to see exactly how... now that 38% of Americans have completely given up their logical thinking....it's a little easier to understand now.

It wasn't an 'all or none' deal. Nazis came to power systematically with small and seemingly insignificant steps at first (to the alarm of scholars and intellects).

When it was said and done, the morons that scoffed at the scholars and intellects when they warned of the potential direction the country was headed were scratching their balls and wondering, "How did it happen?"

those polls are only asking the registered voters of the country, not a sampling of the total population.

Only some 57% of the eligible registered voters DID in fact vote. Less than one fifth of the total population put that fuck in office. He has lost some support from some of those that chose to vote for him.

Keep those numbers in mind when looking at various pools. also just who is conducting the polls and what was asked specifically , then HOW those questions were asked.

It was found and reported that taken by themselves most in the country supported given policies or ideas but once obamas name was attached that support went down dramatically.

Well put... it certainly makes one think. I just hope Trump isn't the tip of the iceberg, meaning the next "Leader" of the "movement" could be worse.

    Definition of Fascism

1 Political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

There's a controversial book called "Hitler's Willing Executioners" written by Harvard historian Daniel Goldhagen.  It explores the role of ordinary Germans and German culture and how, according to this thesis, the rise of the Nazis was the fault of the entire population, not just the leaders of the party.  The prevailing thought at the time is that the ordinary Germans and soldiers were victims of group think, peer pressure, etc., and this book attacked that premise.
Many historians attacked the book for various reasons, but the rise of Trump is a great example where Goldhagen may have it right.  I think we can clearly see that he harnessed the power of racism and nativism, he didn't create it.

When I studied film, we read and analysed a book written about the german film of the 20s - the time between the two wars - and how you could see the german people's mentality and acceptance of Hitler through the produced film.

Obviously one could see it as film theoratical mumbo-jumbo. But it was quite interesting study film from that point of view.

See I don't see it as acceptance of Hitler, rather that he was a reflection of the populace.  Anti-Semitism was deeply embedded into the Germanic regions since the Middle Ages.
