AMES should be ashamed of themselves
I would assume that most people here won't agree with this, but I will say it anyway. I think this 2XL poster sale by Ames pretty much sums up what is wrong with the merch sales. I'll use the 2XL Wrigley print as an example because I was considering it, correct me if I'm wrong but this was sold in Seattle during the home shows as X/100. I can't speak for the people who bought it...but I would have assumed (yes, I know what happens when you assume) that there was only going to be 100 of these. A few months later....another X/100 series injected into the market.
The second issue is when you buy a poster at a show, no matter how bad they are (and there have been some bad ones) you will pay $35. They all have that nice 'say no to flippers' sticker on the back. I think we will all agree that flipping is recognizing what prints people want...and marking up the price accordingly. This is exactly what Ames did with the 2XL posters...price based on demand. The ones that were cheaper were available for hours because of low demand....complete opposite for others.
Some will argue that some of the money goes to help the homeless which is great.....but it doesn't change the fact that Ames played the market.

I'm not sure that it's a second batch of x/100 posters. I was under the impression that these are all XXL versions that did not sell in Seattle.8-31-98 - Raleigh | 8-3-00 - Virginia Beach | 4-16-03 - Charlotte | 5-27-06 - Camden 1 |

I don't get why people are upset when the artists themselves "play the market."
Artists sell reprints of their artwork all the time - they are trying to make a living - why are they being treated as badly as "flippers" when it's their own artwork they are selling?
And yeah a portion of the sale goes to charity, so why can't they ask more for these? They could've auctioned them on ebay and gotten a lot more.Mansfield 06.28.2008 | Boston 05.17.2010 | Boston 06.19.2011 EV solo | Wrigley Field 07.19.2013 | Worcester 10.15.2013 | Worcester 10.16.2013 | Hartford 10.25.2013

If they were really playing the market then they'd have 96 Merriweather, 98 Vegas, Pitt, Sea, Hartford, Vancouver, Mansfield, Dallas, Melbourne and St Louis, not to mention Cincy 03 and Alpine 03.StevieG73 said:I would assume that most people here won't agree with this, but I will say it anyway. Oh...and you could throw in creating new posters for the shows that never had show-specific posters.tempo_n_groove said:

Amazing how they ended up with exactly 100 of each poster after the seattle sale. What great foresight and planning they had with how many they originally printed!

Its charity so im not gonna get too upset about it. Im not a fan of reprints in general. Cant apologize for liking limited things.

Some great points, especially the one regarding the selection of the posters. Only a few of the 12 are good ones in my opinion.
I have a hard time accepting that there were Wrigley and Kong posters left in Seattle.
I doubt you've ever see Munk One and Maxx242 send out a notice that there's a PJ20 Billboard reprint.Post edited by StevieG73 on2000 = Montreal2003 = Montreal2005 = Halifax, St. John's Night 1

I don't think anything says that there were 100 after Seattle. Only that 100 XXLs of each were printed to begin with.RoleModelsinBlood31 said:Amazing how they ended up with exactly 100 of each poster after the seattle sale. Oohhh forgive me then, so some of these posters there were only a few dozen left then perhaps for this sale? Ok, that makes more sense, thanks!tubes10s said:

Huh? Flipping is when someone buys something then turns around and sells it for more. Market pricing by the producer is not anything close to flipping. It’s simple supply/demand based pricing. It’s done with every item you purchase on a daily basis. Manufacturer determines a supply point to meet a certain demand and price point (or price to meet the others, etc.).
And when they’re wrong, price either goes up or the excess supply goes on sale. Are you upset by Ames’ sale prices? If I bought something before and it went on sale by them a month later, that would upset me more than they charged the next guy more. Their sale prices are based on the exact same concept as your perceived price gouging. Why doesn’t that ever bother anyone?
and while I don’t think this was a new batch lol on being upset about a fund raiser.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0
