50 bucks is a lot for a band with a singer who rambles on about "the man"
Maybe you should listen. He's far more intelligent than you imply, rambling or not. The problem you must have with Ed is he's a moral man and well, based on your posts, you don't seem too interested in morals. It's becoming more and more clear why you keep attacking him and the band.
  • They charge 2 extra bucks a ticket to give to those charities... lmao... you pay for it, not them.

Creed... wow, that's a good arguement.

And Ed has rambled about punk ethos their whole career.. the "fugazi ethics"... whatever you want to call them.

I have no problems with the band donating money to charity. I don't like that we are forced to pay into charity. They should have just said, $2 goes to charity for each ticket sold. Not make the tickets $49 and then charge $2 more for a charity that they chose.

I'll be honest here and lay it all out.

I think Pearl Jam mean well. I think that their hearts are in a decent place.

I do find it funny that Ed rambles on and on about "the man" and "greedy people" all the time and then somehow doesn't mind charging people 50 bucks when he is already rich. I find it funny that he always goes on and on about Fugazi and how they do things, but has no problem flying around in a personal jet.

I find it funny that they charge 10 bucks for mp3s and 15 for flacs of shows that they could get out a lot cheaper, such as a pay site with bittorrents or something.

I find it funny that they cause chaos with the posters every night. They could print more, charge less, and bam, everyone is happy and has a few extra bucks in their pocket.

I appluad them for not charging more (which they could, but not too much more... they aren't that popular any more.. see some of the southern 2003 shows that didn't sell so well)

They NEED the 10C, and they know it. They need those people who go to multiple shows. Without them, they would not sell out the places that they do. They need the 10C to get the same people who come to every show who know they will be up front.

They mean well, but for all their punk rock ethos, they could do a lot more - or - charge a lot less.

Sorry that I don't fall in line with the Church of PJ and can't admit their faults... they have them.

I'd respect them if they'd just say "hey, it's nice being rich and playing music.." and left at that rather than trying to be punk.

well, at least you are honest...i guess

but you know promoters are the only ones benefiting from high ticket prices (and again 50 is not high). i shouldn't say only, but they are the majority profiting.

"they cause chaos", "they could print more", not everything has to do with the band directly.

    they need the 10C?

basically, what i see is opinion...

    Esther's here and she's sick?

hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks

We're obviously wasting our time arguing with someone who has no real appreciation and understanding for PJ and what they stand for. I'm not exactly sure why you are even in this club if that's the way you feel about things. It's actually pretty sad how cynical you are about life and music. Are you a republican by any chance?
Duhh....he's in the club so he can scalp his 10c tickets. And my money is on republican too....historically, they're more willing than most to look at life and all aspects of life as "business transactions."

Don't... ok... work with me here... because I can tell by your responses that you are intelligent and that your heart is in a good place.... .

Please go to this post http://forums.pearljam.com/showpost.php?p=3506712&postcount=108 and read it.

I have no problems with Ed... I think he is a good guy, intelligent and well intentioned.... but that's it... he can do more. I am not attacking him.

Morals? Because I don't care if someone sells their ticket? There are more important things to worry about. If a very small fraction of people sell their tickets, who cares? The 10C makes it very difficult to scalp... this is why it isn't rampant.

How should PJ travel? On a commercial airliner that's overpriced and corporate? On a bus? In a car? I'd love to hear your ideas since you are the know all of music, touring, merchandise, morals, ethos, etc.

I'm in the club to get tickets, of course... they provide a service that I pay for it.

And no... I am a democrat... who practices what he preaches... unlike Mr. Vedder.
Ya know what, fuck you. Don't come around here ripping on him. Anyone who thinks Ed doesn't practice what he preaches is a clueless fuck. He teaches by example how to stick to your beliefs and passions through thick and thin. And no doubt you scalp your tickets. All I can think to say is the same thing Ed said when he found out dubya threw the opening pitch at a Reds game - "that fucking son of a bitch."

A private plane is fine... if that is wht they want to do.
    .
What you don't seem to get... is that in 1995 Ed did the whole "travel in the van, doing the radio shows afterwards" because he felt guilty..

Where did that Ed go? Why is he now ok with being rich, while at the same time name dropping Fugazi every chance he can.

Most bands get around on busses you know.

I read that interview... he managed to name drop Ian and Fugazi in that interview too... then went to the airport and got on his private jet.

And wow... saying "that fucking son of a bitch" is real productive.... good job Ed.

Reveals that Ed is a guy who means well, but doesn't practice what he preaches.

Green Disease... surely applies to Pearl Jam.
Yeah, because they're greedy and horde their money and live life for money, right? Ignorant motherfucker, anyway.

and what about the prices? Since you've got the traveling part down. And since your not the one stuck riding around in a van for a whole year or more maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge Eddie's choice of transportation. I don't think flying in a personal jet says anything about someone's "ethos" it just makes clear the realities of being in a popular band that travels all around the world to give their fans 2hours of uninterrupted pure rock. How many other bands that came out when they did are still selling out World Tours?

They don't fucking need the 10c or any of us that belong to it. They'd be playing music whether they got paid or not. That's the difference between Pearl Jam and a lot of other bands out there.

Plus, like someone already mentioned, you don't know their expenses. I'd bet they even spend more on payroll and taking care of their employees because that's truly what kind of people they are. $50 is nothing for the greatest musical experience anyone could ever imagine....night in and night out.

I don't belong here... boo hoo, awwwwwwww people on a PJ message board don't think I am a worthy fan because I don't bow to their "greatness"
How the FUCK do you know they charge two extra bucks? That's so goddamn ignorant for you to turn it around like that. So they donate $2 per show, whether or not they raised ticket prices by exactly $2 is meaningless. The fact is we still buy them and the money goes to Pearl Jam. They choose to donate it locally because....drum roll please......Pearl Jam cares about us.
