Not sure if your post was meant to be hostile or just making fun of my use of y’all...
Ever since the Supreme Court dismantled the Voting Rights Act during Obama's presidency because there was no proof, in the majority's opinion, that it was necessary anymore. (Hey, we have a black president, we are a post racial country now). Immediately upon the dismantling of this protection, states began to pass laws that made it harder for people to vote. They purged people from the voter roles if they hadn't voted in a random amount of time, with claims that they were non-existent or duplicate or dead, cutting down the amount of voting locations in minority and College districts (AKA Democratic districts), creating voter ID laws that allowed, for example, a hunting license but not a college ID or work ID.
In many states, voting was made as difficult as possible when voting should be made easier if we are truly a representative democracy. This was done largely by the Republican party. Voter suppression helps Republican candidates. And in many cases, the people who were and are passing these laws held the power in the State or District.
The Federal Government no longer monitored states that had historically suppressed voting because the Supreme Court said that it wasn't necessary anymore. It wasn't something that happened in America anymore. They were wrong. People show up to vote and are told they don't exist or that they are made to wait in lines that are hours long because the machines aren't working correctly, there is an intentional use of too few machines and this is made worse by putting voting locations outside of the actual districts and cutting down on the number of locations available in certain areas of a state.
New voter registrations have been denied for a myriad of reasons - teachers aren't allowed to give voter registration applications to their students, claiming that the applications are fraudulent with no facts to support this, denying signatures on mail in's if someone doesn't use their middle initial as they did when they first registered to vote and not allowing PO Boxes as addresses to suppress the Native American vote.
Stacy Abrams has documented all of the steps that Kemp has taken in his years as Secretary of State (the person in charge of elections and all thing election and voter registration related) and there are a legitimate amount of blatant acts that were taken to suppress the vote in minority districts. And this went on through election day when voting was made so difficult that Democrats walked away from the lines and did not vote because it was just not feasible to do so. Early voting has been disallowed in many states as is weekend voting which is a huge voting vehicle for minorities as they go to church and then go to vote as a congregation - souls to the poles. College students have been disallowed from voting in the state they are attending school, which was always allowed and/or they have been made to jump through hoops to get to a voting location that is inaccessible by public transportation.
Meanwhile, there are voting machines available inside retirement communities and senior citizen homes that are mostly white and conservative.
There is no automatic remedy under federal law anymore and the lawsuits that are filed are usually after the fact. Abrams has been filing lawsuits against the state as they have been doing many of the stated techniques. She may or may not have won the election if Kemp had recused himself from the Secretary of State position as soon as he declared his run for governor. The same problem exists with Rick Scott running for Senate as he resides as the Governor of Florida.
She has a valid point and so do many voters and candidates since the Supreme Court destroyed federal protection for voters.0 -

Yeah for us, but still pathetic when you look at the fact that less than 2/3rd of eligible voters vote and we're the high water mark for the nation. It would be nice if we could get at least 75% turnout across the country.CM189191 said:Minnesota 2018 voter turnout tops the nation
