Pearl Jam
Fenway Park
Boston, MA
Show Two
September 04, 2018
Set List

Walk On Music: Aye Davanita (from Vitalogy album)

Band Onstage: 7:50
Band Offstage: 10:31

01. Given To Fly
02. Animal
03. Save You
04. Arms Aloft-(Bullen, Shields, Slattery, Stafford, Strummer) “arms aloft in Fenway Park”
05. Lightning Bolt
(Ed praises the audience.  He notes the signs people have that indicate how many shows they have been to from 1 to 192. He never thought of Boston as tropical but that has changed this weekend.)
06. Red Mosquito w/ Danny Clinch on harmonica
07. I Am Mine
08. U
09. Even Flow
(Ed praises Mike for playing so well while medicated for a sinus infection.  “Do this one a little different this time”)
10. Immortality II ( First two verse lyrics are changed. Last three lines changed. Possibly early version of lyrics from the Orpheum show in 1994.)
(Great joy and privilege.  Matt played with Soundgarden back in the day and opened for Buffalo Tom.  Then Pearl Jam got to open for them as well.  He wrote one of my favorite all time favorite songs.  Bill comes out and says he can’t describe how cool it is play here without saying  “wicked awesome”.
11. Taillights Fade-(Buffalo Tom) with Bill Janovitz from Buffalo Tom.  Bill sings V1.  Ed sings Ch1 and V2.  Bill sings Ch2 and V3.  both guys sing outro chorus.
12. Not For You / Modern Girl-(Sleater Kinney) :58 second tag (breakdown Ed starts a “Let’s go Red Sox” before the “All That’s Sacred”)
13. Nothingman
(Ed introduced the next guest Mark Guiliana.  He played drums on Matt’s “Cavedweller” album.
Ed says the next song’s title was originally “voting is your superpower”)
14. Can’t Deny Me w/Mark Guiliana
15. Jeremy (about 10 seconds of “Sweet Emotion” bass riff? Tom Hamilton is at the show)
16. Better Man Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling) 1:30 tag (Ed questions whether he could find a better crowd…Philly is pretty good.  New York is pretty good.  Sometimes though you can’t beat a Boston crowd.  Is tonight one of those nights?  What do you got?  He then leads the audience into the participation section.)
17. Porch (Ed at the barricade singing with audience)

Encore Break

(Ed lets the audience know they won’t be playing live for awhile.  The next time they play together will be in the studio. Tonight we are gonna play until Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis drag us offstage.  Turns out Kevin is here and comes onstage and swings Ed’s guitar like a bat.  Ed doesn’t want to talk all night because of the curfew but he talks about being with friends and crew.  He says we get a lot of letters and describes several of them.  Incredible stories and connections.  We all have to get through..We are going to play this for a person Matt met and for a friend of mine too.)

18. Thumbing My Way
19. Imagine-(Lennon)-Full Band (asks audience to hold up lights)
20. Crazy Mary-(Williams)
(Tells the audience that the winners of the Little League World Championship was the Hawaiian team.  Booms wife is involved in the league on the island.)
21. Comatose
22. Go
23. Rearviewmirror

Encore Break Two

24. Smile
25. Wasted Reprise (Ed says he will miss the Green Monster but hopes to come back in late October.  He thanks people involved with the Red Sox and Theo Epstein.  He mentions John Martin on the Red Sox video team who was stricken with ALS.  Ed mentions the charity helping Mr. Martin.   https://teespring.com/jpm-legend-edition#pid=11&cid=2488&sid=front
Ed continues to talk very emotionally.)
26. Life Wasted
Dirty Frank (instrumental only 30 seconds)  The band teases Dirty Frank and Ed does a groovy little dance but they don’t get much past a few bars.
27. Dirty Water-(The Standells) w/ Bill Janovitz & Danny Clinch
28. Alive
29. Baba O’Riley-(Townshend)
30. Yellow Ledbetter/Star Spangled Banner

Unbelievable.  Maybe in the Top 10 for me out of 70 some.  Set list.  Energy.  Setting.  Just beautiful

Ok fine I will review this show first.  Like The Rolling Stones said she is my little T & A.  That show was straight tits and ass!!!  One of the best shows I ever have seen these dudes play.  They brought SOME MUCH ENERGY!!
  • Blew night 1 away. The crowd, the setlist, the band...it all clicked.  Section B5 on the field - you guys were awesome. At least the first 6 rows. Everyone was into every song.

I need some time to process but it was definitely in my top 5 shows.

  • Good but preferred night 1.  Sound was messed up in g8.  But I’m thankful to have had two nights of the best band in the world!

AMAZING JUST AMAZING!! Band was tight, crowd was on point, WOW the song selection!! Def top 5 show for me!

Dirty Frank tease was evil hahaha... although I mixed up the Life Wasted organ intro for LBC so I got teased as well.

What was up with Comatose?? Slowmatose?? I couldn’t get into that version. Did Ed F it up and they slowed it down or was that intentional?

Red Mosquito, Smile, Thumbing, CRAZY MARY BOOOMMM SOLO, Imagine was just beautiful, grabbed the soul... IMMORTALITY WITH ORIGINAL LYRICS!!!! Wow wow wow

This was an epic show! It felt like they had read the comments from the first show and amped up their game. It started high energy, and from our seats in section 93, it looked like the fans in the seats on the field were rocking it out big time. And we were really happy our new friends Brad & Heather got Immortality.

    That was wicked awesome. :-D

Tremendous energy from the band and the crowd, face-melting setlist, IMMORTALITY, much better sound than the other night.

So nice to hear "Thumbing My Way" and "I Am Mine!"

I almost took off my shirt when Ed took off his -- then I remembered that I wasn't wearing a sports bra underneath. :o Oops

I don't think anything can top Seattle 2, but this was a great show.

  • Posted this in the set list thread cause I was annoyed.

So this was my 27th show. First at springfield civic center and multiple MSG shows, the full spectrum close set and many boston/Hartford shows and this was easily the loudest crowd singalongs of all time. Blows away the last 10 years of MSG and oNly the Hartford Xcel center comes close. Anyone who was not there has no idea.  Eddie was letting the crowd take the loud songs not just better man. It was absolute fire. The set list has some nice ones like U and life wasted but the energy was what counted. I loved night one, was closer and had a great time but this was better.

I personally preferred the night 1 setlist more, however the crowd tonight was so loud, it was fantastic.
The Dirty Frank tease was evil indeed, lol.

Oh, and Eddie sounded so good tonight. It’s really amazing how he still does it.

Thanks to PJ and Boston for a great last few days.
  • Fantastic show. Blew away N1 in terms of overall energy and flow, although with the lack of repeats they make for a fantastic pair. Can't really say enough about the crowd. Been in some loud PJ crowds (Hartford 2013 being the loudest) and this was right up there. Ed clearly took note of the lack of energy in the second half on N1 and put together some heavy shit. Loved it.
Mosquito sounded way better than it did in Berlin. Great seeing U, didn't expect that. Comatose is interesting tuned down. Didn't really mind it other than Ed fuckin up the beginning. Crazy Mary sounded great

Fantastic show tonight. Night one was brought down for me by a lacklustre crowd in our section but not tonight - tonight everyone rocked their asses off.

seeing people compare night 1 and night 2 and saying which is the "better show" is like comparing apples and oranges. there's nothing like seeing this band live no matter what songs they play.

that said, tonight was insane. sat in 129, pretty much right behind home plate. netting was annoying but what can you do. there was a couple in front of us basically sitting and on their phones the entire time. tried not to let it bother me but why come to a rock concert to sit on your phone when you can do the same at home? i still rocked the fuck out anyway. otherwise there were a lot of people in surrounding sections very into it. i loved looking around and taking in everyone having fun.

the energy between the band and the crowd was incredible. started off rocking with GTF into animal and that energy sustained through out the whole show. LOVED LOVED LOVED red mosquito, been wanting to hear that one live and it sounded so good. the lyric change to immortality was a nice treat. although not my favorite, can't deny me was neat to hear. i thought the first set was great. 1st encore had an insane crazy mary, and RVM to close it was mindblowing. 2nd encore, that dirty frank was SUCH a tease. alive > baba > y. led to close out an awesome show was fitting. so many great singalongs tonight.

crowd was on fire. besides eddie forgetting lyrics to life wasted the band sounded incredible. energy and atmosphere were something else. had a blast at these 2 shows and i'm sad it's over, but eddie saying next time they play together will be in a studio makes it all okay.

thank pearl jam for a great weekend! :rock_on:

That was fantastic. I thouht when they started Crazy Mary at Seattle 2 the crowd had this sort of oh yes moment. It happened again tonight. And the song itself was even better.

The bands energy right from the gate was like 2000 all over again. Hard rocking all night, no matter what the song was. I don't care to say what show is better than any another show but you should download this boot....Highlights - I Am Mine has a new best version. Eddie doing electric for Thumbing My Way was great, another top Crazy Mary. This was an awesome show

Immortality. WOW! Can't wait to hear that on the boot. What a fun show to be at. Josh I know you are not on these boards much but we were next to you in Sec F78 and that was not right them teasing you with Dirty Frank like that! My favourite back to back of the night was Go into Rearviewmirror. Not sure if that has ever been done before but what an excellent way to close out the first encore. What a year this has been. Can't wait to see what next year has in store with a new album in store.
