Hearings will begin after committees are formed in January 2019. Summer 2020 seems reasonable, maybe sooner.Meltdown99 said:

Thank you. I am not sure how all this works. Seems like the walls are closing in on Trump. Is that fair to say? Do you think his presidency is nearing an end...mrussel1 said:

He's not getting impeached any time soon, I'm sorry to say. Remember that's a political process. Nixon held on until he lost support of the Senate. Today, Trump has a firm grip on the GOP so until that changes, no impeachment. That is unless somehow the Dems can get 66 Senate seats and that isn't happening this cycle.0 -
There is no way the baffoon can get any work done not with this hanging over his shoulders , so no matter how long this takes his presidency will go down in history as one of thee most corrupt administrations ever he makes Nixon look like mickey mouse the baffoon is/has been a criminal for most of his adult life ....jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

I disagree. The dems take the house and begin committee hearings and investigations, much of it based on Team Mueller's public record generated in criminal proceedings, plea deals and sentencing hearings. Plus, Team Mueller will release a report. Once those things happen and the dems hand up articles of impeachment, the repubes will have no choice but to put on a trial. And with the evidence presented, the more genteel senate, the time honored institution and its members will vote to convict. There will be enough repubes that will go along because it will be so painfully obvious. The "Establishment" hates Team Trump Treason. And we're not taling about one charge of perjury because of a stain on a dress. We're talking conspiracy to defraud the United States to throw an election. Bigger than Watergate, much, much bigger. 40 government officials were indicted and plead during Watergate and its aftermath. These 6 are just the beginning. RNC, NRA and Team Trump Treason? Its going to get ugly and go higher. Much higher.mrussel1 said:

Manafort will likely see the 10 charges refiled and then he has a whole new set of charges in DC next month. It doesn't get any better for him.0

I don't see that... Can you give any specific examples of that? I don't recall one single "turning point moment" for the left yet with regard to the Mueller investigation. I think that until now they were all just waiting and watching (some patiently, some impatiently). I think you may be mistaking shock and horror and anger with people thinking it's an actual turning point.OnWis97 said:Every couple of weeks something happens that the left thinks is the turning point. I don't think this is likely, but if I were the GOP, I'd recognize the self-serving volatility of Donald Trump, and that he'll one day turn on the GOP when it's not a convenient relationship anymore (something that feels likely based on his typical actions). The GOP have the unique position that if they want to eliminate Trump politically, they can now do so.mrussel1 said:

He's not getting impeached any time soon, I'm sorry to say. Remember that's a political process. Nixon held on until he lost support of the Senate. Today, Trump has a firm grip on the GOP so until that changes, no impeachment. That is unless somehow the Dems can get 66 Senate seats and that isn't happening this cycle.
EDIT: Or whenever they want, really. I guess they could literally wait two terms to start shit if they remain in power.Post edited by benjs on'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

Resignation will come before it gets to that point.mrussel1 said:
Some would... Sasse, Flake, McCain, Corker, but other than Sasse, these are all retiring Senators unfortunately. They are too few and far between.OnWis97 said:
Yeah. I don’t see any GOPer ever voting against him. Thi is not 1974. It’s tribalism and Party First now.mrussel1 said:
But the base has the outsized impact in the primaries. That's the risk for the "thinking" GOP Senator.Halifax2TheMax said:
Senators are elected state wide and not by grossly gerrymandered districts. Huge difference.mrussel1 said:
I hope you're right, but I tend to think you need to lose the support of a fair amount of the base to make the Senate turn.Halifax2TheMax said:

Sure, he would if it would help, but registered GOPers are his entire base.As for the bold, I believe in the pre-internet, pre-cable-news days that this was possible.
