I had the opposite experience. Although the Canadian officers were friendly, I got the third degree because I hadn't been to Canada in 30 years.
When I explained I was going to see one of Gord's last shows, I got confused looks from the agent and was asked to pull into the waiting area so they can run my passport...again.
It was like they had no idea who Gord was and what horrible situation was going on with his health. Did they know in two days about 40% of their country was going to unite to watch his bands final show live on national TV?

I basically mean this is the kind of shit that precedes major losses in terms of civil rights. Increased militarism like this, especially at borders, combined with all that anti-media retoric/creation of fake news/double-think crap/news anchors reading government-prepared statements across channels, the ramping up of racist propaganda, military parades, presidential political rallies outside of campaigns, protection of corruption combined with extreme nepotism within federal administrations .... historically, all of these things are preludes to the rise of fascism or totalitarianism. Yes, in all of those historical instances, there have been what sound like very rational justifications for such actions like deploying up to 4000 national guard troops to the border and getting the military to pay for this kind of defense infrastructure.PJPOWER said:

From what I've learned, militarizing the borders is not exactly what America the Free is supposed to be about. Yep, fear propaganda about illegal immigrants is exactly how to militarize what used to be relatively open borders without tipping the citizens off to a bigger, scarier future picture.

Increased militarism like this, especially at borders, combined with all that anti-media retoric/creation of fake news/double-think crap/news anchors reading government-prepared statements across channels, the ramping up of racist propaganda, military parades, presidential political rallies outside of campaigns, protection of corruption combined with extreme nepotism within federal administrations .... historically, all of these things are preludes to the rise of fascism or totalitarianism. Yes, in all of those historical instances, there have been what sound like very rational justifications for such actions like deploying up to 4000 national guard troops to the border and getting the military to pay for this kind of defense infrastructure.PJPOWER said:

From what I've learned, militarizing the borders is not exactly what America the Free is supposed to be about.
