While I feel bad for Melania, she knew what kind of a**hole trump was when she married him.
I feel kinda sorry for Baron. He didn't sign up for this. Imagine having Trump for a dad and Eric and Donny for your uncles....
    Those are called "brothers"..
Lol, I was gonna say... but yeah, it's an understandable slip. It's not really normal for a 70+ year old POTUS to have a preteen child with his 3rd wife, especially not one as miserable as that kid appears to be.

I've been on several threads proclaiming Trump as popular and pretty much stating acceptance that we have him for two terms (which has a lot of people assuming I am a Trumpee).  While I still think that's possible, I am starting to get a feeling that we're seeing the first budges of the GOP coming around.  It's Flake and McCain, sure, but we have the correspondent that just quit Fox News.  I think I heard on some telecast that some of them are unhappy with the congratulations.  It's getting pretty hard to ignore.

My guess is that their motivation has been that Trump still remains popular among party loyalists and they think they'll lose if they don't stand with him (not very patriotic, if you ask me). They probably also fear that Fox News will criticize them.  But it'll be really interesting to see how things go leading up to the 2018 election. Will Trump have coattails?  Will they try to distance themselves?

The GOP has the power to end this nonsense.  Right now they're not there...but I feel like their resolve is just starting to weaken.
Don't you mean that their resolve (or morality) is just starting to strengthen? So far they have been atrociously weak and immoral, and that is why they haven't been doing anything.

I guess.  I just meant the firmness with which they are digging in their heels may be softening...so I did not mean to imply this potential shift is bad.

Oh no, I didn't think you meant it was bad. I'm just thinking about the mindset of the GOP people.... The motivation behind how they've been doing it so far since Trump decided to run has been absolutely appalling specifically because they have had zero resolve about anything other than being irrationally partisan. So if they are now moving towards something else, I guess that would mean they might finally be thinking "gee, perhaps I should stop being such a fucking asshole and stand up to this prick," i.e. strengthening their resolve/moral standards.... Or maybe they're just realizing that they're ruining their careers and scaring away too many voters, and still have no morals whatsoever, lol. That's probably more like it.

Disagree.  St Bernie is just as bad of a panderer as the rest.  He provided the same red meat to his base as Trump does.  He's morally a better person, but his prescriptions are just as flawed as Trump's, only left wing.  And his core base is a mirror of Trump's.

I think HFD was making the same point you were, sarcastically.
But anyway, I have to disagree with your assessment. Seriously, on a totally objective level, the left core base does not mirror Trump's, and really nothing Bernie ever did was as flawed as Trump's crap. I really don't think one can say without bias that there is anything comparable to Trump on the other side of the political spectrum. That ignores way too much about Trump.

I'm talking about policy, not personality or morality.  Bernie is a pro tariff protectionist.  He is anti NAFTA and Pacific Trade, both positions are a huge mistake for America and the world (as a whole, not for individual special interests like PA steelworkers, for example).  I am also making a comparison of the intolerance of Bernie Bros to the intolerance of Breitbart jackoffs.  They display similar characteristics, but from the other side of the spectrum.  Just because we might agree or be closer to one side doesn't make the approach okay.

Bernie's base is hardly a mirror of Trump's.

Oh I definitely think there is a bunch of Bernie Bro's who are just the flip side of the same coin as Trumper's.

In fact we have a few here.

I say this as someone who would have easily vote for Bernie.

I still disagree, lol. Feels like a false equivalency to me.

The % of Bernie primary voters that legitimately qualify for being called “bernie bros” is extremely lower than the % of Trump primary voters that that say and post outlandish things that would qualify them as a “trump bro” if such a term existed.

It's absolutely a false equivalency. Are there racists and misogynists among Bernie's supporters? Of course. But to imply there is anything close to the numbers who back Trump is nonsense.

There are people who are intolerant.  They just aren't intolerant of race, creed or sexuality.  I believe your lens is too narrow.  Read the crap that writers at Huffpost spit out on a daily basis.

I'm not making the argument that the far left and far right have the same political views, I'm talking about the approach to politics and disagreement.

We all know what Trump's base is. We've all seen it. To claim that Bernie's supporters are a "mirror image" of that is, at best, a poor choice of words.
