It doesn’t appear to me that it is a “non-response” to Russian aggression. In fact the administration appears to be pushing back against Russia in many different ways...the main being Syria, Ukraine and most importantly the oil and gas sector. In terms of the tarrifs as a free trader I don’t like it but I do think it is probably necessary. As somebody who believes the world is in a very perilous state the US will need its steel industry to be on a much stronger footing in order to prepare for and/or prevent the worst. The tariffs also put a lot of pressure on China which may or may not relate to North Korea agreeing to come to the table on essentially the very same day. Again this move is fraught with peril but if you believe the world is headed for difficult times anyways then it could in fact be very rational.
Is Trump crazy or crazy like a fox? Truthfully I have no idea but I continue to believe that America can use “crazy” to it’s advantage.0 -
