    I’ve changed a lot this last few years.  I think having a kid has helped me to realize how badly they’ve needed a sax player instead of boom.

    worst idea I have heard on the board, there have been some bad ones. Don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

    while we are talking about drummers.. Jack wrote some amazing  tribal beats but was not an elite live drummer compared to Dave A or Matt. Not even close!

    You could say that if Layne Staley was an Elite singer he would be in a band that tours right now. Unfortunately his life did not turn out the way he had hoped. Or many of the musicians who have passed in an untimely way, or their lives are just completely unmanageable. Dave A., not touring in a band right now has very little to do with whether he WAS or IS an elite live drummer during the period he was with Pearl Jam, and more to do with choices he has made in his life, not the level of talent he has.

    Jack Irons was not considered an elite live drummer by many, other than Pearl Jam fans who started liking Pearl Jam after Dave's departure. If you were there live and saw Dave A, you could tell the difference was substantial.
