Outside of my TMR vault subscription and the PJ vaults I allow myself to spend $60 a pay period on records. That's $120 a month. Or if there's a grail that I'm looking for I'll save up a couple/few paychecks worth of vinyl money to throw at it. It works out pretty well.jjflash said:
Laz and Blunderbuss are genre hopscotchers so I'd be surprised if BHR isn't as well. I'm not a huge fan of JW's solo work but he's an iconic trailblazer and I'm willing to follow his muse. I'd recently cancelled my Vault membership (been on board since the beginning) but re-up'd after today's announcement (dang you New Year's resolution to be more frugal w spending, LOL)DewieCox said:Tim Simmons said:Anyone getting a bad vibe about this album? Nothing wows me so far. Going by the bits we’ve heard and the Vault announcement, he may be trying mash too many styles together. He’s best when there are strong ties to American roots music
He’s had pretty strong country influences for basically his whole career.0

Wow, I enjoy Jack's solo albums from start to finish. I think they're fucking fantastic. Lucky me, lol. And I none of them have heavy country sounds. I know he's influenced by country, but his solo albums don't actually sound country. It may be a fine line between that bad country sound that I hate and everything else for me, but Jack's never crossed it on the solo albums (like Ryan Adams does a lot).

I love his solo work.. no complaints from me. There are many real gems on the two solos, and no duds in my opinion. Probably the only song I don't really like is High Ball Stepper.0

That's a nice, healthy budget. That would add 40-50 records a year to the old collection. Not too bad at all. My budget goes awry because I'm super anal about the record sleeves and outer sleeves. The Groove Jimmy Hats I use are 35 bucks for 50 so that adds up... but they are so worth it.bflynn1 said:

I guess people's idea of country varies a lot. I think his sound is a lot more bluegrassy than it is classic country, but even then, it's really just a hint, not a heavy twang. Not to my ears.HughFreakingDillon said:

I like how everything he does is different. Each group/solo record has it's own unique sound.Alright, alright, alright!

give me Fly Farm Blues or Battle Cry (too bad it's instrumental), or most of the b-sides off Blunderbuss. a few tracks off each album and that's about it.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0

I don't like modern country in the least but really like songs with a little country influence. Tom Petty's best work along with teh Wilbury's had a very strong country influence.HughFreakingDillon said:

Which ones do you use? I consider myself a vinyl neat freak but I just get the inner sleeves from Mofi. So maybe I'm missing out on something.mrussel1 said:

I use the MOFI or sleeve city for the inners, but it's the outers I'm talking about. My biggest peeve were the sleeves that get bunched up on the shelves. These are super tight, super thick and crystal clear. You won't believe the difference in quality. They have single and double (or combo pack). They NEVER bunch.bflynn1 said:

Um, what?? Eff it? Who said that? We just don't like it, lol. I have no idea why this would bother you, nor how it shows "disrespect". We just don't like it, which is okay, right?MedozK said:

Lol, no disrespect. I just find people really like to give their negative thoughts on things. I guess for the most part I try to live by the "If I don't have something good to say, I don't say anything" ... but .... Just my thoughts.0

I will definitely have to try some of these thanks! I know what you mean about sleeves getting bunched up/slipping off. I actually started putting my records in the sleeve wirh the record cover opening going in the sleeve first and the spine facing outward. That way when I pull a record off the shelf I'm pulling the sleeve toward me and therefore tighter on the record rather than where it can slip off.mrussel1 said:

The only annoying thing about that is I have to take the record completely out of the sleeve to listen to it. So I'll definitely try a pack of these Groove ones to see how it goes.0

Oh. Well, I like to express and hear other people's thoughts on everything, good and bad. I think it's more honest and keeps things more interesting. I love when people share their thoughts and feelings, whatever they may be. I think just focusing on the nicey-nice gets boring and makes life a bit shallow and overly simplified and undramatic. That said, I'm not negatively emotionally effected by the negative. Some people are, I gather.MedozK said:Lol, no disrespect. I just find people really like to give their negative thoughts on things. Country was something I grew up having to listen to. My mom loved radio country. So I had an extreme distaste for it. discovering Uncle Tupelo Whiskeytown and later Wilco and RA in the 90's/oo's really opened me up (checking out Parsons/ and his bands/Willie/Cash/Haggard as well as contemporary alt-country stuff) and made me get into it. I still dislike current pop country save a few acts, and most of that stuff I grew up with is meh, but good country is out there.

Your probably right. I should go over to the Neil Young thread and post how I feel his whole discography is utter garbage. Probably make me feel better. I guess everyone is different, lol, that's what makes life fun. right? I may get bothered by what someone says and others might get bothered by what I say... but who really cares. Cheers!PJ_Soul said:
