I think post-2018 when the next Congress is elected is probably more likely, but with GOP heavyweights like Lindsey Graham and John McCain blasting Trump, hopefully they'll be able to create some sort of opposition movement within the GOP. Never thought I'd be jumping on a Lindsey Graham bandwagon, LOL. People like Pelosi and Franken can rightfully make noise about this latest Sessions revelation, and that will mostly be dismissed because it is expected from the opposition party. But when you have 2 very senior, powerful GOP senators now acting like the opposition, it is starting to get real. So I'm going to hold on to my 2017 prediction, especially if Sessions is in no position to block progress (either because he recuses himself, resigns, or is fired).

Yup! As I said, I figured I was overly optimistic, but am not tossing out that prediction, especially now that resignation is part of the thread title. I still don't believe he'll last 4 years, and am still hopeful that he'll throw in the towel before the year is up, so he can leave the "dump" he currently lives in and get back to shitting on a golden throne in NYC. He isn't happy, and took a hell of a beating in the press and on social media this past week for being honest with us about his racist views. So I think he's getting closer and closer to calling time of death on his presidency. Can't come soon enough for me.

Look, I want Trump gone as much as anyone, but do you really think impeachment and conviction will happen? Democrats winning the House really seems unlikely at this point. Let's say somehow there's a majority of House members who vote to impeach, that's just the start. Getting 60 votes in the Senate for just about anything anymore is like pulling teeth. Hell, a simple majority is hard. But for impeachment?!? That would be tough. Is the thinking that Mueller will just deliver a knock out report that swings Rs? Trust me, if it gets to that point, the White House will be tipped off and it will be a resignation. Finally, let's say the smoking gun of the pee tape is found? What does that do? Most Trump supporters acknowledge that he is not a man of great personal character. And if the idea was to soil a place where Obama slept, don't you think his supporters would love that? You know how he could kill someone and not lose supporters, well he could be getting pissed on by Russian hookers saying, "I can't believe Russia is going to help me by hacking into election systems in the US" and not lose support. Hell, I already hear Hannity's spin- the us media, deep state, and both parties were out to rig the election. Why can't Donald fight fire with fire?" Basically, instead of punchline zingers, catch phrases and unrealistic expectations- how does this realistically seriously play out in your eyes? We know it's not going to end well, but fancy me with your logic.
Honestly, I think he will resign instead of facing conviction in the senate. It will be similar to Nixon. I should change the title of the thread to impeachment/resignation----to me it's kind of the same thing. Just the idea of when will this "presidency" end prematurely...
Unfortunately I think he would fight impeachment as hard as possible. He's the kind of wealthy narcissistic jackass that would spend a million dollars to fight a $50,000 lawsuit.
That's what he wants you to believe....truth is he settles way more often than he lets on. If GOP senators tell him it's a lost cause, I can't see him going through with it.

against Trump/the GOP will become a big social value for a lot of young,
marginal voters in 2018. If these Democratic-leaning, presidential year
voters show up to protest Trump in the midterms, we Republicans will
face our worst turnout nightmare and we will lose the House.
