Lovely sentiment but that is not what is being discussed. Eight years of American withdrawal from the world has led to a vacuum which has been filled by the worst actors. China, Russia, Iran, ISIS, North Korea, Turkey are the countries that matter right now. The rest of you may think Trump is a laughingstock stock but these countries are not so sure. They are confused. Confusion is to Trump's and America's advantage. The world has been a dangerous place for a long time and there is no guarantee that it can be set right. This is the big picture. Very little else matters...certainly not what a bunch of Canadian Universities think.mfc2006 said:

What a joke. Go spend a little time in Attawapaskat and/or Kashechewan and let me know if you still believe that. Canadians love to think so highly of themselves but bury their problems where other countries won't look.HughFreakingDillon said:

um, no. I don't think we think highly of ourselves. I think we are pretty modest about who we are, to be honest with you. I'm just saying how we are seen by others.BS44325 said:

every country has its problems. i live in the murder capital of canada, for instance. there is no doubt about that. but canada is admired. that is not my opinion.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0 -
The Canadian Constitution has often been described as more consistent with, and more influential upon, prevailing global standards and practices than the U.S. Constitution. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which was adopted in conjunction with the patriation of the Canadian Constitution in 1982, has been described as the leading influence upon the drafting of the South African Bill of Rights, the Israeli Basic Laws, the New Zealand Bill of Rights, and the Hong Kong Bill of Rights, amongst others. And in a world where the United States offends as often as it charms, the Canadian Constitution may derive added influence from the simple fact that it is not the U.S. Constitution.HughFreakingDillon said:

I for one don't shy away from our disgusting treatment of aboriginals, past and current. I am hoping our new administration is going to make good on that promise at least, and address it and try to make it better. hopefully he doesn't take another "poll" and decide canadians no longer want that.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0

Trump is damn arrogant I agree and it annoys the hell out of me. But I think most presidents have a level of arrogance. To run in the first place you have to have a pretty big ego.RYME said:

You sure do want American soldiers & taxpayers to do a lot of heavy lifting to make you feel better about the planet.
I don't mean this as an insult, I really don't, but it seems to me that the right wing in general seems to be overly paranoid & fearful. It comes across that you guys are afraid of everybody & everything. They talk tough, they act tough, but seem to be afraid of the world. America currently has enough nuclear weapons on hair trigger status to wipe every human off the planet. We spend more on the military than the next 10 countries combined. We have the most advanced air force, naval force, ground force, cyber, and space capabilities on the planet. We have cameras everywhere, warrantless meta data collection of phone calls, emails, and everything else. Erosion of rights and privacy. What is enough? What will make you feel safe? You really think you're way of life is at risk? Is China invading North America?
Meanwhile, it only took 19 guys with boxcutters planned in caves to turn the world upside down. So in the end, how valuable is your proposed military buildup, isolation, and saber rattling?0 -
