you had to leave your comfortable seat and walk or maybe crawl on your knees all the way to your tv just because you wanted to switch channel or maybe turn up the volume..

My dad was too lazy for all of that. If my mom was taking a bath, he would continue to yell for me to change the channel. My bedroom was upstairs. Across the top of the house. Much of the time he would wake me out of a deep sleep.

There were voice overs for movie trailers not just at the theaters but on pay channels like HBO and Showtime? That needs to be brought back IN A WORLD that doesn't have it anymore. RIP Don LaFontaine.

You should check out Honest Trailers on Youtube. Freakin' hilarious!!
I subscribe to it on YouTube and you're right.

rap music was pretty good, about 25 years ago

The millennial whoop and autotune ruined it.

before pagers and cell phones, when you and your friends arranged to meet up for a show or dinner or movie...they would actually show up.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

This as far as I got through this thread before I had to reply. CRACK ME UP.

Remember when we used to say crack me up instead of LOL.

The Bic pens worked better than anything rewinding the 90 minute tapes.

Man... I could just get that tape spinning like mad. Tight circles not big loopy ones. You had to find a rhythm.

This! And Herbal Essences. And Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific.

70's shampoos (and ads) rocked. Tried them all, too.

When we were kids, my sister and I, thought we'd invented shampoo and conditioner in one.. Then we saw a commercial for Pert.. we were heartbroken...

    Remember when
Commercials used to tell you to ask your parents for
Things? Or to have them call to order whatever they were selling?

Rene when television shows were "sponsored"?
  • Remember the dead screen time watching late night movies? No ad was sold so for 2-3 minutes... a landscape would be on the screen with the perfect music to put you to sleep.

Many Planet of the Apes movies were half watched as a result.

Oh man, Tree, I remember the Nair commercials.

TV in general used to be such a different landscape. Few shows could touch the un-PCness of All in the Family. Bless Norman Lear!

Yeah. TV was also used to indoctrinate family values, and dealing with tough circumstances... After School Specials.. etc..

Remember when TV reception cut off at 12am? And you'd get the national anthem
Before the screen was just color bars?
( this concludes our scheduled broadcast day, thank you and good night America!) anyone remember which channel closed their broadcast day with this statement?

I still remember where the fade out break is to change tracks mid-song (8 track tapes) on some songs. I'm looking at you Pink Floyd and Supertramp.
