...you could actually print something? God knows I can't hand write for shit anymore. It's some sort of weird cursive-print bastardization that looks like it's straight from a serial killer.

You also had to learn to read maps..( which they taught in school); there was no GPS.
You as well, had to learn how to utilize reference materials to study; Google was a far fetched idea!
    But saddest of all..
I remember when it was important to learn proper grammar, punctuation, and communication skills. You were taught manners in the home, you sat around an actual table to eat meals; only the rich had televisions.
And you had a giant Rand-McNally in your trunk at all times.

You had to find a pay phone to check your messages and then actually call and speak to people.

You had to write a letter on actual paper and wait a week for it to be delivered.

Getting charged for toll and long distance calls (I remember a $1400 phone bill from March 1997).

These are painful memories... especially when you were paging 'your guy'.

Remember when you could have an actual interesting argument about something, rather than someone just saying "google it" in the first 20 seconds...ending heretofore interesting argument?

There were no dog poop bylaws and there was dog shit all over the fucking place and stepping in it was a fairly regular event (not all change is bad, lol!).

Nic Cage, Johnny Depp, Robert DeNiro made good movies and weren't selling out for the paycheck?

Some of the bad Cage movies are campy fun, though, like Wicker Man.

    "HOW'D IT GET BURNED?!"

A family could go out to dinner on $20 and have enough change to stop at the video rental on the way home.

People knew the word have followed could, would, should, and might? Seems like that was only a year or two ago, then everyone starting saying "of" instead. :anguished:

Oooh this is a good one. I also hate that some people think that "cause" is short for "because"... it's not!! I don't care if you right cuz or 'cause... just don't write cause!!

You were too young to not comprehend nostalgia...to not BE nostalgic.

(Me, I love it, bittersweet as it can be.)

    contractions ruined that...

could've, should've, would've...I think then people just assumed the "ve" was "of"

The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

answering machines had tapes, and if you got the cheezy ones with a single tape, and somebody left a message, the 'beep' would be really long.

Apparently English also lost the whole "There are" thing when the subject is plural. Now it's only "there is", no matter how many of them there are. I mean is. Grrr. "There's forty songs in the setlist!" No. There ARE forty songs in the setlist, stupid. Strange how the English language is officially devolving in many ways, and so quickly, too. Well, it was a good run, lol.

Dammit, now I've got a hankering for that Seinfeld.

First run movies overlapped each other on HBO and Showtime in the 80s before all studios were exclusive to them. Use to watch Princess Bride a lot on those channels when they shared Fox movies before HBO was the exclusive home it's been since then.
