Being on Sub Pop would help sometimes. They were getting notoriety, and they definitely had collectors in some towns. And in some places it didn't help us much at all. Here comes a bunch of long-haired guys from Seattle wearing lime-green Doc Martens and motorcycle jackets, and you get up onstage in front of a bunch of farmers from Omaha, Nebraska, and they're like, "What in the hell is this?". And they start chanting, "Play 'Freebird'!". ~ Tracy Simmons

I saw Xana working in this used-clothing store on the same block as the Showbox. She looked like Cher: big nose, kind of Greek features, long dark hair. And Andy loved Cher. So I brought him to the store, and he was crazy about Xana. She was getting off work, so we followed her for a couple blocks to the bus stop. She stopped and said, "Why are you following me?". I remained silent, and Andy went and talked to her and they exchanged numbers. And, I mean, within days they were living together. ~ Regan Hagar

When Andy got to a city, he would pick up a newspaper before he got onstage and try to find the most outlandish thing that he could come up with just to catch tne crowd off guard. In Boston, he came onstage one night, and at the time, Michael Dukakis was running for president. Andy did the classic, "How ya doin', Boston?". Followed with, "I was just out drinking shots with Kitty!". And people didn't even know how to respond, since Kitty Dukakis obviously had an alcohol problem. ~ Michael Goldstone

The rehab place was an hour or two away. I used to drive out there every night and sneak him food. I'd be outside the window handing him pizza through the window, bringing him salads with feta cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. ~ Xana La Fuente

I've already said this today, but that's the best book I've read in at least a decade.

Just finished The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert. A good reminder on the impact humans have had on their environment whether intentional or unintentional.

I'm at the part where Cora and Caesar are in SC. It seems to be one of the books that I can't read before I go to bed. The violent scenes are not long in text, but the effect is long in how they affect me.
