I'm not a pence supporter but I think this was uncalled for..

How so? The cast welcomes himand thanks him for coming, and then extends their hooes for his administration.what was uncalled for about that?
Keep the theater to theatre and politics to the suits who enjoy it...thats all.
Politics influences almost all aspects of life. When you're VP you need to expect that people will address political issues with you in public at any point, and you will need to be responsive to the population. Simple as that.
Nah your wrong. Just because your a politician you don't have to be responsive at any point. If your trying to have a nice quiet dinner with your family or doing whatever there is no need to respond to the idiot trying to make their point.
I would agree that politicians don't need to engage with people trying to interrupt a family dinner, but (1) this was not a family dinner, (2) these were not "idiots"; they delivered their message briefly and respectfully, (3) a higher position such as VP demands greater investment and willingness to engage with the population , and (4) being responsive doesn't necessarily mean you talk with people but you need to understand that your presence represents the government and your position in it at all times so people will use that opportunity to communicate their concerns.

It was Completely appropriate. An African-American, gay, HIV-positive man, performing as Founding Father and drafter of the Constitution, Alexander Hamilton, before Mike Pence, the Vice President-Elect, a leader of the country, the man who disrespects the Constitution and ***wants to defund HIV treatment and instead use the funding for gay conversion therapy***, delivered a poignant post-show message pleading him to protect and serve ALL Americans, all while Pence tried to scurry out of the theater and avoid listening to his constituency.

BTW, if you know anything about Broadway plays, The cast routinely does speeches at the end of the show, anything from happy birthday to a cast member to political speeches to giving to various charities.

The cast has the right to do it but it's just self defeating.

...and who are the crybabies now?

To be fair, theaters are not a 'safe space.' As I recall, Lincoln was shot in one.

    Nor was he harassed.

I saw it. Just because someone can do something it doesn't mean they always should. Like I said...it's the cast's right but it's self defeating and it makes them look small.

Some of the best and most relevant art involves social and political commentary.

And interesting that Van Zandt would be against political statements in art, given his own performance history, both with Springsteen, no slouch at political commentary, and his own solo career with its anti-Reagan and anti-apartheid songs. Guess he lost his fire as he got older.

It doesn't make them look small, it makes Pence look small.

Imagine being a black, gay person whose HIV positive. You Are a hated MINORITY by the VP elect.

Now imagine that the new VP thinks you need shock therapy.

You have the microphone and it is a regular night where you make a speech after the show. AND this hateful man is there.

    YOU have the microphone.

The only one who looks small in this situation is Trump, to absolutely no ones surprise. The need to tweet about it and ask for a "safe place".

    What a tool.

I don't know this, but it's far from cheap.

Also, big names are usually comped tickets to go to shows in exchange for good reviews. Penses ticket was most likely free.

Great point, being a part of Springsteen's band and all.

The power of having your voice heard.

It's funny that the right is against free speech when it's even mildly critical of their position.

You know the shock therapy accusation is bullshit right? Please tell me you do?

Like I said...again...they have the right to do it but it makes them look small and it's self defeating. It does no damage to Pence in any way no matter what you think of him. If anything some people like Van Zandt who don't support him will actually become sympathetic.

Or he brilliantly got people talking about this rather then his Trump U settlement.

It seems we have a different idea of what brilliant means.
