  • Anyone here listen to the Cubs radio broadcast? 90% of the games I follow are the radio broadcast.
One thing I have become aware of?
Mark Grote has absolutely NO RADIO SKILLS whatsoever. That man belongs nowhere near a radio booth. Listening to him do play-by-play last night was just painful.

I'm always watching on MLB.tv on my ipad and stream through Google chrome cast. My wife loves a good Len Kasper home run call. Doesn't come close to the days of Steve Stone and Harry Carry - but it'll have to do. (or Santo on the radio for that matter)

I get pissed off hearing Steve doing a white Sox game. He still bleeds cub blue. When they are announcing a cubs/Sox game, hes always talking about the cubs players. And I hate hawk harrleson.

I did love the summer of '98. Heard a lot of that "swung on, belted" that year. Tainted for me now. I'll never forget nearly getting kicked out of the old tiger stadium then for putting up K signs for Kerry Wood.

Hughes took last night off for whatever reason...
And Grote and Coomer just BUTCHERED the entire radio broadcast.

As Bryant crosses the plate with a run...
Grote announces.."And Bryant is safe at 1st"

As Contreras throws a runner out at 2nd....
Grote calls him safe...Then says "Oh wait, he is out"

As Pitt scores a run in the TOP of the 13th....
Grote announces that Pittsburgh "Has won the game"

    Just fucking ridiculous.

Jeez sounds like a train wreck!! Ok So Coomer is the regular guy. I don't listen to too many games on the radio but from what I have heard the chemistry between him and pat is average at best. Pat and Stoney would be my dream team.

Coomer is getting better..But he certainly has plenty of room for improvement.

Another thing that I don't understand. Every game, Hughes will take a break and let Coomer do play by play. Why? Does Hughes really need a break? It's a 3-4 hour broadcast. Why is he taking a break?

I really hope these things do not mean that Pat Hughes is about done. That dude is great. I too miss Steve Stone on the right side of town

harry caray was one of the worst announcers in the history of baseball. his grandson sucked, too, but in a different way. skip was OK, but he did braves games.

I've listened to Harry Carey cough an entire inning.
Any body see the Harry Carey documentary they showed during a rain delay.
My favorite parts were when he went to a little league game? with his son and he was commenting on how this one kid was playing. His son said, "That's your Grandson".
He told a story about trying to outdrink Frank Sinatra, and around five in the morning, he told Frank "I don't know how you do this, I'm going home."
The worst of times..they don't phase me,
even if I look and act really crazy.

he may have been OK before he became an old drunk but I only knew him as the old drunk who didn't know what the fuck was going on and couldn't pronounce names.

Harrelson is the fuckin worst god damn thing on earth. I'd rather listen to Joe Buck call Cubs games the rest of my life than be subject to fucking Hawk call one inning of anything ever. I don't wish death upon anyone, but when "he gon" I certainly won't be fuckin heartbroke. Just god fucking awful.

    And as Hawk ages.
    He becomes more miserable.

    Can't stand him.
Which is why I have listened to maybe a total of 1 hour of Hawk in the last 20 years.
