Since I'm a newb to this stuff I already did that. It wasn't bad but once I hit that button it changed up nicely.
I'm saying that after listening in a pure mode for a while and then switching off of it, it sounds shrill. Like the music is penetrating your brain. Whereas with pure, it feels 'body'. Kind of like a nice indica! Are we saying the same thing?

If you are looking for a true amplifier (not integrated), check out this new one from Emotiva. I think I may be buying it myself. I really love their product. Emotiva and Outlaw have cornered the market on internet direct, high value audio.

that looks really nice. if I have an analog pre-amp, do you think it would work with it?
I realize all volume control would be handled thru the preamp, but just wondered if you thought it would be a good match. thanks.

I think this amp would go beautifully with a pre/pro, analog or not. I'm assuming that your out on the pre amp is unbalanced (RCA jacks). This unit doesn't have any switch or volume controls, so it's designed for precisely what you have.

looks really good. I have been wanting a pure stereo amp for sometime. I bypass the built in pre-amp right now in my receiver and run it on pure analog mode. I have Klipsch reference series towers. this looks like it could push them nicely.

the only problem is I have a 400 disc CD changer that I occasionally use that requires a preamp.
I wonder if they make something to switch my speakers A/B between my Pioneer Elite Receiver and the Emotiva. any suggestions as I don't want to run 2 sets of speakers.

I'm not sure I understand. If you have a Pioneer Elite, that would act as your pre-out. Your Elite (depending on the model, but I think most of them) will have a 'line out' for each channel. So in this case, two channels. You let your elite function as the pre/pro and use that to switch the source. So whether your using your TT or your cd changer, you should be good. If you send me the models of your components, I could tell you for sure.

ok , I got you. just use the Elite as a pre-amp and bypass the amp. that would be an expensive preamp...
use the Emotiva as the workhorse. I just wonder if it would affect the signal path in anyway.
I would love to go right from my tube pre-amp into the Emotiva if possible. but it would in fact make it difficult to use any of my digital equipment.

Oh, I see. You want two sources to feed this. Yeah, that's a tough one without using a multi-channel type switcher that will degrade the audio source. I will think on that.

Whatever preamp you use with your poweramp, you could always hook up a D/A converter to one of it's inputs for all your digital pleasures.

Anyone have any advice on something to buy to control the volume?

I just bought the Emotiva Bas-X A-300 but It doesn't seem to have any volume control. Is there anything I can hook up?

That's a power amplifier, which needs to be paired with (some kind of) a preamplifier that has line inputs, a source selector and as you've noticed, a volume control. The matching Emotiva product seems to be the PT-100 receiver, which is a preamp and a tuner with a built in D/A converter and phono preamp. All you need, really. ;)

If you want a one box amplifier, you need an integrated amp.

  • Has anyone heard or had experience with the hum that's been reported using the Pro-ject Carbon Debut. there's a lot of chatter on the internet about it and don't want to purchase without some advice. thanks in advice.

So those of you interested in a subwoofer, but have never made the move, Amazon Prime Days has a deal for you. It doesn't hit until 7 tonight, but if it's a good sale, then this is a steal. It's the Bic Acoustech PL-200 sub. This thing is a monster. It's rated down to 22hz and in bench testing, it just about gets there. It has a 1000 watt Bash amp and a 12 inch driver, front facing, rear ported and long throw. The cabinet is quite nice. It's high gloss piano black. Be warned.. it's friggin' big. I have had one for a few years and it will shake your house. I don't use it for music as the paired speakers are full range, but I have used it and you just have to tame it down a bit. But for movies, it will obliterate your house and impossible to bottom out. Anyway, just thought I would throw it out here. This is a highly regarded budget sub. It's not a JL, but costs about 10% of a JL and delivers 90% of the performance.

Not familiar with them. Are they nice? I'm a little hesitant on the whole powered speaker thing.

Amazon does have these KEF bookshelves at $250 off. These Q300 which are very nice speakers, although stuck in a very crowded market space. They are on par with the B&W 685 so at 400 a pair, a good deal https://www.amazon.com/KEF-Q300B-Bookshelf-Loudspeakers-Black/dp/B00CE3LG9U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468349887&sr=8-1&keywords=kef+q300

Kanto yumis sound really good to me and have Bluetooth support which is an added bonus. They are not audiophile quality but they are a great band for your buck, especially when connected to a subwoofer.

  • I just purchased the Pioneer Hpm 100 x 200w speakers. These are going to be paired with my Pioneer 8500-II amp and tuner. I know that these speakers were made specifically for this set up and these speakers are heralded as "wonderful".

I'm looking forward to hearing the pairing and will report back.

I am currently running Martin Logan 15 speakers so lets see how this goes. I was told to use the ML's as rears so we will see!
  • They arrived!!!
