With "you are" as #1, evacuation could be the second worst live song performed by pj. I won't even rank in the moonlight since it wasn't good enough to make binaural but it was terrible at pj20
You Are rules and Josh Homme performing with Pearl Jam was awesome.
You are rules for 1% of the crowd. Otherwise it s like watching paint dry.
Put me in that 1% then. I love the studio version and I'm dying to hear it live.

When the track listing for Binaural was first released in late March 2000, it was quite different from the final version.[52] Some tracks that were originally on the album were dropped and not released until the 2003 rarities compilation, Lost Dogs,[44] and "Gods' Dice" was added to the final version. The original version is as follows:
"Breakerfall" "Insignificance" "Evacuation" "Letter to the Dead" (Later renamed to "Sad") "Rival" "Grievance" "Light Years" "Of the Girl" "Thin Air" "Nothing as It Seems" "Fatal" "Sleight of Hand" "Soon Forget" "In the Moonlight" "Parting Ways" "Education"
I'm sorry but this track listing would have been atrocious.
With "you are" as #1, evacuation could be the second worst live song performed by pj. I won't even rank in the moonlight since it wasn't good enough to make binaural but it was terrible at pj20 and philly 1 this past year. after they played it at philly 1 Ed said something along the lines of "we shouldn't play that one again live." yea I understand some of you will defend these songs like you wrote them but realize 99% of the crowd listening to them will be checking their phones as they are being played.
EV messed ITM up a bit in Philly (and admitted to it). Tampa had a much better version.

I'm alright with that. I'm there to hear PJ tunes I like, couldn't care less if the rest of the crowd isn't into it.

The Binaural Deluxe double disc version floating around a couple years back was excellent. I recommend you look for it if you don't have it and are a fan of this album.
Agree with the OP. I think this was their moment to release a double LP. While I like the original content of the track listing the actual order of it probably wasn't the best.
Could've been their 'white album' moment.
Having said that I do like Binaural but maybe it was a missed opportunity?
I don't think they knew at the time they were going to release a b-sides and rarities album.
They definitely knew they were doing a b-sides album, it was part of their original contract with Epic. They were obligated to do 7 albums, a b-sides album and a greatest hits album. But i doubt they'd save any material for a b-side album, Id assume every record they released included what they believed to be their strongest material.

I'm with Mike on that. You Are is only interesting to those of us posting on the forum. 95% of the crowd is immediately on their phone checking facebook and the twitter machine when that song starts.

Sad and In The Moonlight just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. I do like them, but they just don't sound like Pearl Jam to me, almost like they were covers or something. I'm kinda glad they didn't make it to the release.
That said, Sleight of Hand is just weird, wouldn't have minded if they just left that one off and kept Fatal or something.

I says PARDON????
Ha, easy.. It was just a fan made compilation with the lost dog tracks added in. Not an official release.

But can't that argument sorta be made for nearly every song from Riot Act, Avocado, and Backspacer? You're implying that "deep cuts" from the post-2000 albums (the least popular albums) only interest people obsessed with Pearl Jam right?
Also, even though I get what you're trying to say, you're wrong about the "people posting on the forum" thing. I know a lot of "hardcore" fans that have been to many shows, want to hear their favorite rare songs (You Are for example), and have never once posted on this forum.

People like me would probably say it would have been a stronger single LP if they left off Breakerfall, God's Dice, Thin Air and Evacuation.
Whoa! Those are all very significant songs to that record.
Binaural is perfect as is. The songs they left off are in my opinion weaker than the ones they left on, and the final tracklisting is perfection.
Thin Air is definitely b-side material in my book. I love 95% of the b-sides so I'm not saying this in a negative way.
I think those three rock songs are the weakest on any of their albums (expect for Backspacer's GSMF and Supersonic). Great b-sides, songs that I would want to hear live, but not strong enough for an album...imo.

I was just implying hardcore fans when I said people that post on the forum. I know a lot of huge fans don't post here.
And yes, I think the majority of people at a PJ show are casual fans that aren't interested in rare songs. It's what's great about Ed, he manages to play all those huge songs people love and weave the rarities into the set that we love.
