Girl Loves Me is my favourite so far.intodeep said:I am halfway through my first listen of Blackstar. Pretty solid stuff. I really liked blackstar and lazarous so far
Any idea what kind of slang Bowie is singing or did he just make it all up?

Ah...OK!
Thanks for the info.

People have already recommended the albums I would recommend. I am currently fixated on side B of Low. Last week it was Heroes and Alladin Sane. Oh and Hunky Dory is one of my favorites. Quicksand is on it, enough said.I am just a dreamer, but you are just a dream...
If I knew where it was I would take you there.0 -
Anyone see Lady Gaga's tribute at the Grammys? I've nothing against her in general, but it was bloody awful, sounded more like Bette Middler or Liza Minnelli doing cabaret renditions of Bowie tunes.0

it was atrocious0
-
I agree - it was horrible. What a disappointment.

I'm not a Gaga hater (seen her once and quite enjoyed it), but her tribute rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. It would have been cool if there were more collaborators, like Iggy Pop or Mick Jagger. I also didn't like her attempted likeness to Bowie.
In contrast, I really enjoyed the Lemmy tribute, I thought it was super heartfelt. As was the Glenn Frey tribute.
Damn, so many tributes :(0 -
taken from another website
word I've heard is that the Bowie estate blocked the following:
-any DB video usage
-any DB photo usage(the photo at the end of her performance was a drawing, not a photo)
-any DB master recordings(the "Let's Dance" teaser earlier in the show were from the Grammy soundcheck)
-certain arrangement elements(has Nile never seen an e-bow before?)
-Iggy blocked China Girl
-told those who actually knew DB in the last 20 years not to go near it.0 -
I felt like she seemed to truly have been inspired by him, but the delivery and sound and the way they spliced the songs together... the whole thing was really really bad.
My favorite comment about it was: "Gaga doing Bowie = bad pub karaoke on a NASA budget"0 -
losing david bowie still hits me hard,..being a big fan for over 37 years will do that...
there will be no one like him. a true visionary. such a sad loss to music
for me personally i was ok with gaga's tribute
but this wins...if there was even a competition to start with...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7l3y7LOzLc

I agree with you on Lorde's performance and I feel that she was a good choice.
To me, she seemed to be very humbled by the honor and was more intent on the song being the star of the tribute, not herself..

that was an amazing performance. lorde has such an interesting, cool voice.0

I cried when I watched the Brit Award one, didn't like lady Gaga's hommage at all.Kool Kat Club 1992, Moderna museet 1992, Globen 2012, Friends arena 20140

Lorde was great. I think what made the performance was the fact that it included people who were close to him. It was very heartfelt. While Gaga's theatrics was a nod to Bowie obviously, I just found her whole tribute tacky and over the top.0

Lorde looked so humbled to be performing that song, too- I really felt that she understood that she wasn't there to replace Bowie, but to honor him.if not for love I would be drowning, I've seen it work both ways0

I think that I am one of the few people that felt like that Lorde performance was karaoke night before the drinks take effect. It was nowhere near as awful as the Gaga debacle, but her singing sounded flat and lifeless. I don't know why they didn't have Annie Lennox sing the song. She would have done an amazing job with her vocal skills.
