I agree with you on Lorde's performance and I feel that she was a good choice. To me, she seemed to be very humbled by the honor and was more intent on the song being the star of the tribute, not herself..
Lorde was great. I think what made the performance was the fact that it included people who were close to him. It was very heartfelt. While Gaga's theatrics was a nod to Bowie obviously, I just found her whole tribute tacky and over the top.

I think that I am one of the few people that felt like that Lorde performance was karaoke night before the drinks take effect. It was nowhere near as awful as the Gaga debacle, but her singing sounded flat and lifeless. I don't know why they didn't have Annie Lennox sing the song. She would have done an amazing job with her vocal skills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ildVYgYWPqc

"David Bowie channeled everything to everyone, a beacon of light to the freaks and the outcasts and great pop/funk/rock/glam/tech songs for the masses. The most oblique of strategies. The truest of original song makers. He will be greatly missed" -Jeff Ament
i'm still in awe at how jeff seemed to capture exactly what i would have said but he said it with such insight and grace

On MTV I'm watching DBs concert at Hammersmith Odeon in 1973. It's a cinema-verite footage of the rock singer alter ego Ziggy Stardust...Awesome show.

Tried watching Inglorious Bastards last night. Fell asleep. Woke up to Bowie's Puttin Out the Fire.
A freakin great song.
Awesome song. Isn't it called "Cat People" though? Did you fall asleep because of the movie?? Surely not - that's a really good film!
I started it late when I was restless.
The song was originally from the movie Cat People.
Yeah... Pretty sure the song is also called Cat People. The "putting out fire" part is in brackets after that. That's how I've always seen it listed, anyway.

Don't make me go to my Cat People soundtrack CD (when I bought it... it was the only way to get that song!).
The friend who brought me to this show just sent me this review and told me there's an audio link on youtube to 12 of the 17 songs on this AMAZING setlist. Just search for "Bowie Kit Kat Klub"

I had a dream the other night that I was interviewing David Bowie. It
was a very casual interview as we were standing outside in a field near a
semi-rural road. Once in a while when a car would come in our
directions and David put out his arm like he was hitch hiking only he
kept his hand in a fist without his thumb showing. When the car got
somewhat close, he put his arm down and turned away from the road.
Sometimes, when I asked him about this music or that, or about a
recording and such, he answered briefly and then asked what I thought.
He was quite the gentleman, and a very enjoyable time it was!
