"The three-night event kicks off Monday, May 18 with a visit from Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, who first appeared with Letterman on “Late Night” April 4, 1984 and will make his 60th total appearance with the host. Also that night, rock superstar Eddie Vedder will make a special music performance backed by Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra. "

That's good news, thanks for heads-up. I wish the entirety of PJ were performing but am stoked nonetheless to see what Ed performs.

I'm guessing 2 songs. Maybe a Zevon cover?

I was thinking the same thing! Was trying to figure out how Dave will pay tribute to Zevon.

Fuck yeah. Tom Waits Friday, Eddie Monday.
Ten bucks says he plays "Letterman"... er, "Betterman."
A cover with Paul and the band would be much cooler though.
They did have a band on who played a Zevon cover a couple weeks ago. Maybe they'll do it again. Bet you Grohl shows up on Wednesday.

I think Dave said a few years back that Betterman was his favorite song by Pearl Jam. Can't wait to see what Ed decides. Second the thought that we also wish that Pearl Jam would be performing but are delighted that Ed has been asked. What a honor...Congrats Ed. Best of luck to you on the special night.

yea, it's great.. especially since pj started going elsewhere for late night appearances lately. there was clearly a lot of mutual respect over the years, and it's nice to see at least eddie paying dave one more visit.

    how about hail hail?

How hilarious would it be if he played something obscure. Gremmie out of control...

Why does everyone think he'll play black?

Because his recent musical guests did the first song they performed on the show. And Eddie sang Black in his first appearance. But as a band it was Hail, Hail. And the CBS Orchestra plays that almost every week. So it could be that.

I was wondering of that was it. Ed played black solo his first appearance? I shall have to youtube that!

Guess it makes sense for him and paul shaffer to do black, given what has been going on, but it might be more apropos to play Goodbye.

I don't see him doing Black, but I guess it's possible if that's what Dave wants to hear. Who could turn him down?

The "some band" who did Zevon was the amazing Jason Isbell and his wife Amanda Shires.
