Tough one, but I love RVM just that little more. Having heard numerous versions of both I at the Leeds show and during RearView as the instrumental end kicked in and for that minute and half or so I had goosebumps, that's my reason and will stick in mind forever.

I think we'd have a closer result if it were Release against Black, or Present Tense, or some other song that seems more in line with a song like Release. If I were to put RVM against another awesome song that people love I probably would have considered something like Corduroy or GTF or something like that.

Release is my favorite Pearl Jam song. That's saying so much I can't even articulate it, really. But more simply, no song has ever affected me so much each time I listen to it, every time... and then seeing it open a show live...
In the most stripped down way of explaining it, PJ_Soul has nailed it
what abe said. when they started to play it after pendulum in st paul I started to well up and got tingles all over. first time I had heard it live. and it was euphoric.
This was my first Release as well, it was everything I thought it would be plus so much more, the tears flowed. Best part about it was the guy next to me wanted Pendulum because he had never had it live, which I had seen a couple of times and I wanted Release because I had never seen it but he had seen it a few times. We both were so stoked for each other that we got to hear our songs that night. I St. Paul.

Anything you lose from being honest You never really had to begin with.
Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.
I take "Rearviewmirror" because when I think of PJ I think of rock. And I love "Release," just tend to prefer the fast to the slow if I'm forced to choose.

Two songs that have had great meaning in my life, two songs that are killer live, but Release wins this one.

I chose "Release". Such a powerful way to end their first album. I particularly love the live version from Verona, Italy, in the rain. It was featured in PJ20.
For me it was Release, as it was my first of many favourite PJ songs. It was my hidden gem, when everyone else was talking about Alive, Even Flow, and even Black. Release spoke to me the most for some reason. Perfect timing, as I was just leaving High School.

Release is definitely awesome. But I have to choose Rearviewmirror because of a personal connection to it. It came out when I had a lot going on in my life that I wanted so badly to put behind me, & the song made me dream of being strong enough to do that. Years later, when I finally COULD see my worst problems in the rearview, the song became more like an anthem to me to celebrate getting past the seemingly impossible hurdles of life back then.

The Leeds Rvm mentioned above was without doubt the best I ever saw. Intense
The crowd was so into it too. Fucking epic!

Rearview hands down. Release i think deals more with finding closure while Rearview deals with finally escaping a bad relationship or situation that was holding you back from personal growth. I just relate more to the latter.
Love both, but relate to Release much more, also such a powerful song live...

While Release is a masterpiece, I chose RVM because of the meaning behind the song. One of the biggest draws to this band for me is how their focus on bringing under-the-rug issues to the forefront. I have been lucky enough to not to have experienced most of these issues personally but they have educated me through the music. Thank you Pearl Jam
On the studio albums I think I'd probably give Release a small edge but the live versions of RVM are absolutely insane so it wins out for me. The Philly 1 2013 performance was the greatest performance of any song I have ever seen.
