warning: vinyl bootlegs
Ever since the vinyl renaissance accured it seems that everyone jumps the bandwagon.
But the labels have difficulties to answer the high demand for vinyl, that's because they are only a few good pressing plants left in the world. I happen to live very close to the one who is doing the pressing for Sony, their label is called 'Music On Vinyl' and in the last couple of years they have re-released 'Vs', 'Vitalogy', 'Into the Wild', 'Mother Love Bone', 'Temple of the Dog' and 'Mad Season', and Im sure more will follow. Every PJ record was released on vinyl at the time of release, but some are out pf print nowadays. Out of print at this moment are: 'No Code', 'Yield','LO2L', 'Binaural', 'Riot Act'. 'Lost Dogs' and 'S/T'.
Re-released and thus still available are: Ten (deluxe/boxset), Vs, Vitalogy (also in boxsets). And still in print are: 'Live on 10 Legs', 'Backspacer', and 'Lightning Bolt'.
The reason why this thread should serve as a warning is because the market is really being flooded with bootleg releases. Apparently there are some pressing plants in Italy or Czech republic who are 'releasing' No Code, Yield, Binaural & Avocado. All on coloured 'audiophile' vinyl. People, do not buy this crap. Sure, it looks nice (although some of the artwork is pixelated) but it's just CD master pressed to vinyl. Or do you really think that these illegal pressing plants have acces to the Sony/Pearl Jam vault for a proper vinyl master? No. They just copy your regular CD to vinyl. Far from audiophile quality, you're better of with your CD. And there are also some live shows available that PJ never released. That kinda makes it a double bootleg and you really don't want those
.
Stuff like:

Buy them if you will, but understand that they are bootlegs. And that there are many downloads in flac available that are in superior quality, just ask around
.
Pearl Jam should rerelease their backcatalogue on vinyl soon to beat the bootleggers once again

Yea, i have both og s/t and a bootleg and they sound pretty close.
I already have originals so I wouldn't buy the bootlegs but you wouldn't believe how many times I've been tempted to buy a bootleg of Aenima (tool). The original is worth a mint (just like PJ vinyl).
I'm not entirely against bootlegging. I'm more interesting in the non-official release boots like live shows etc... Something interesting to add to the collection.
I think most people know about the bootleg coloured vinyls by now. Everyone knows the originals are black vinyl and hard to find. Anyone who's a decent record collector, walks into a record, see's a rare vinyl, google's it to see if it's a fake
And yes Its kinda sad that the official S/T is not masterd for vinyl...viva la vinyl?? Yeah right PJ

There's also the issue of where the money goes, once spent on a bootleg vinyl...some of the recipients aren't exactly the most legit or trustworthy.
I'm sure the band knows of these bootleggers, the same way they knew of the tape/CD trading back in the 90s. Come on guys, either use your lawyers to shut these clowns down or just re-release the originals for $30.
I would.

Colored vinyl sells. Period. Just look at the people who fell all over themselves to buy yet another copy of Ten just because it was on coke-bottle-colored vinyl.
Unfortunately that's true. But it's probably compressed from a higher resolution digital file, higher than 44k CD standard. With these bootlegs you'll literally get a CD pressed to vinyl.

I recently had a conversation with a local record store owner that buys from several European distributors. He said the colored vinyl is a thin layer of protection in some countries there, Something about a copyright loophole that says if it is a different color than the original then they cant be prosecuted. Either way, I am tempted by the Binaural, but i am holding out hope for a No Code and Yield boxset this summer.
