I cannot even imagine that there isn't some other life form out there. We are so incomprehensibly tiny in the grans scheme of things, and I think it clouds our vision at times. We can't imagine the vastness of space with our feeble minds.

This picture...well, this video of this picture...has to at least give you some idea of what I'm talking about. The dust cloud that seems to swirl around a galaxy is not made up of gas and dust so much...as it is stars. Stars like what our planet orbits around. Some much bigger than our sun, and many about the same size. Each one their own unique solar system. HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF THESE...in just this one small segment of this one galaxy that is "only" 2.5 MILLION light years away from us. Just in this one galaxy there could be hundreds, if not thousands of solar systems with planets just like ours. And there are billions, and by some estimates, trillions of galaxies. If you want to feel really really really small, just watch this, and keep in mind that each and every one of those tiny pinpoints of light is a star just like our own...

Yes, but they can't reach us and we can't reach them.

Number of galaxies, number of stars, number of planets. Too unlikely for their NOT to be other life out there.

    Yes
    I'm going with 'yes'.

First we said the world is the center of the universe, because the universe was designed for humans. After that, we said the world isn't the center of the universe, but the universe is still ours (at least certain religious folks might have felt this way). Then, scientists have told us that our existence could very well be a byproduct of randomness: as though the universe rolled a dice with billions of digits on it, one of them representing the right set of events to create 'us'. But after billions of dice rolls from the universe (nuclear fusion and fission and momentum from the big bang), we came into existence. I find it highly unlikely that, of all the spaces on those enormous dice, another roll hasn't generated the conditions necessary to bring about another species' existence elsewhere.

What fascinates me is the notion that it's a mere coincidence that we are carbon-based species, and it's a mere coincidence that we evolved to perceive within a certain frequency range (i.e. 10-10,000Hz for sound, whatever the range on the visual spectrum is, etc). There is a possibility that aliens simply could not communicate or recognize us (or vice-versa), if they exist and/or communicate within a frequency range we can not perceive.

My guess is that aliens have come to visit us, without our knowledge, and left, with a fantastic new case study of how not to exist as a civilization, and the way greed and numbness will catalyze any species' downturn and later, its demise.

It's pretty damn arrogant of humans to think that we are the only intelligent form of life in this universe. However, I would choose D. I don't know for sure, but it's likely other intelligence is out there, if they haven't visited Earth already.

    Define intelligence.

We aren't even the only intelligent form of life on this PLANET! Dolphins, whales, and primates are all startlingly self-aware and have complex thoughts and emotions. Just having a dog as a pet is enough to show you that, while we are much smarter than the other animals around us, they are intelligent and feeling.

Watched a great stoner show last night. It was a episode of the Unexplained files on Science channel.
Talked about alien activity, military base location and freaky shit happening all along the 37th parallel. Then went on to go into detail about the underground base that houses aliens in Dulce NM and how there is an underground tunnel between Los Alomos and Dulce on up to Area 51.
    Who knew???

There's a slight difference between believing in the likelihood of life beyond our scope of discovery versus believing in a distinctly defined story which shapes ones thoughts and actions.

Only if people believed and worshipped 'little green men' in organized fashion, would they be hypocritical criticizing common religion.

if you are right you are right. most people don't say they "KNOW" that aliens exist. they just believe it is incredibly unlikely that we are the only ones.

I was only commenting because it seemed you were openly mocking the very idea of those that believe it's possible aliens exist when you are so outspoken about 'knowing' that god exists. that was all. I found it ironic.

and really, who is to say those other creatures you mentioned don't/didn't also exist? did you know that humans have only discovered roughly about 15 percent of Earth's species? that leaves quite a big of wiggle room. scientists just discovered fish living under hundreds of feet of ice in the antarctic, and they have no idea how the survive in those frigid conditions. that alone should tell us something.

    Darwinspeed, all.
